Early Life and Education
Cha Chung-hwa was born and raised in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province on 28 April 1980. During her school days, she appeared as a model student on several occasions and served as a class president throughout her elementary, middle, and high school. She found enthusiasm in music and acting from her high school time. Moreover, she dreamed of becoming an all-around entertainer after becoming a fan of singer Park Jin-young.
Although her parents wanted her to have a stable career in future and opposed her aspirations, she refused their concern and decided to pursue her dreams. She graduated from the Department of Theatre at Sangmyung University and made her onstage debut in 2005.

Cha Chung-hwa made her debut as a musical actress and played multiple roles in the musical Backstreet Story at the age of 25 in 2006. Her obsession with theatre grew stronger in her 30s. She started her career in acting with a minor role in the South Korean film, ‘Harmony’, starring Kim Yun-jin in 2010.
She participated in a highly competitive audition in January 2011 and captivated the judges with her unique acting skills and boundless energy. As a result, she was chosen to perform in the Korean encore performance of the play, ‘Shear Madness’.
Next year, she appeared in a minor role in a sports drama film, ‘As One’ starring Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona. She tried to balance her career in music with acting and played multiple roles in the revival of the musical, ‘Oh! While You Were Sleeping’.
In 2016, Chung-hwa made her debut in a television series with a supporting role in the drama, ‘Shopping King Louie’, starring Seo In-guk, Nam Ji-hyun, Yoon Sang-hyun and Im Se-mi. Since then, she gradually established a strong presence in the entertainment industry.

In the same year in August, she took on a starring role in the healing drama, ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’, alongside Shin Min-a, Kim Seon-ho and Lee Bong-ryun. In the series, she played the role of Cho Nam-seok, owner of a Chinese restaurant and was known as a village gossiper.
Chung-hwa was chosen to play the role of Choi Mi-yeong in the web series, ‘Dr. Park’s Clinic’, premiered on TVING in January 2022.
Her role as a homeless woman in the South Korean television series, ‘My Demon‘, starring Kim Yoo-jung, Song Kang, Lee Sang-yi, and Kim Hae-sook in 2023, is her latest work as of early 2024.
