Biography of Wooseok
Jung Woo-seok, widely known as Wooseok, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, model and composer. In 2016, he debuted in the South Korean boy group Pentagon. He also formed a duo with Lai Kuan-lin as Wooseok X Kuanlin in 2019 under Cube Entertainment.
Early Life and Education
He was born in Gwangju, South Korea, on 31 January 1998. He is a graduate of the School of Performing Arts in Seoul. During his younger years, he was fond of the violin and piano, participating in various competitions and winning several awards.
Career
He participated in Mnet’s reality survival program ‘Pentagon Maker,’ and on 10 October 2016, he made his official debut with the song ‘Gorilla’ from their self-titled EP.
The following year, he co-wrote mega-hit ‘Never’ and ‘Wanna One’s’ debut title track, ‘Energetic’ together with Pentagon’s leader Hui, for the Produce 101 Season 2. Along with other members of Pentagon, he made a cameo role in the drama ‘Hello, My Twenties! 2’. Additionally, he was featured in the music video of labelmate Jeon So-yeon‘s debut song ‘Jelly’.
On 24 March 2018, he debuted as a model during F/W Hera Seoul Fashion Week for the designer brand R. Shemiste in 2018. The same year, he appeared on the song ‘Ain’t No Time’ by Kim Dong-han from Kim’s debut EP ‘D-Day’.
He debuted in a new project with labelmate and former Wanna One member Lai Kuan-lin. On 19 March 2019, the unit Wooseok X Kuanlin made its debut with the title track ‘I’m A Star’ and its debut extended play, ‘9801’. He co-wrote and co-produced the EP with two solo songs, ‘Always Difficult Always Beautiful’ and ‘Domino’.
In 2020, he was one of the cast members in tvN’s new variety show, ‘Decoding Meow’ alongside Yoo Seon-ho. He was featured in Jeong Young-eun’s ‘Fine Day’. He was a contestant on the rap competition program ‘Show Me The Money 9’. Later, he was eliminated from the show during the 60 Second Team Trials round.
On 20 January 2021, he made his web drama debut as the lead in ‘Dingo Music’s Fling’. He also starred in the web drama ‘Nickname Pine Leaf’ for the SBS YouTube channel yogurD. He plays a dual role portraying two different versions of himself: PD Jung Seok-woo and Pentagon’s Wooseok. He was cast as the lead in his second Dingo Music web drama ‘Those Who Want to Catch’.
In 2023, he hosted the Pentagon’s Night Radio replacing bandmate Shinwon as the DJ. He collaborated with Filipino singer Maymay Entrata on the song ‘Autodeadma’. Wooseok left Cube Entertainment along with fellow labelmates Pentagon members Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, and Kino. He released a duet with singer Soyeon of Laboum titled ‘We Are I’ as a part of the MBTI Project.
On 2 January 2024, he began his venture by signing an exclusive contract with Undefined Entertainment. It was officially announced within the first half of the year, they would conduct an album and fan meeting.
