Cho Mi-yeon celebrated by her stage name Miyeon is a South Korean singer and actress. She is the main vocalist of the South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE under Cube Entertainment. In the virtual K-pop girl group K/DA she voiced fox-like vastaya, Ahri.
Early Life and Education
Miyeon was born on 31 January 1997. She is an only child and has shown a keen interest in singing since she was a child. Her father was her pillar of inspiration for music and she was sent to a music school to learn various music skills and instruments. She auditioned for YG Entertainment in middle school and was selected as a trainee. She was a trainee for five years under the agency. However, her debut failed and she left the company.
She signed up for a music academy to pursue her music and enhance her vocal skills. She also wanted to learn and invest herself in composing and producing music. Before debuting with (G)I-DLE, she spent eight years as a trainee.
Career
In 2017, Miyeon was a trainee at Cube Entertainment. Before joining the agency, she was a freelance singer. She featured as an associate singer with Lim Seul-ong in Urban Zakapa’s Canada Tour in September 2016. She featured in Lim Seul-ong’s music video ‘You’.
She debuted with (G)I-DLE ON 2 May 2018 with their mini-album ‘I Am’ and the title song ‘Latata’. Along with Soyeon, Madison Beer and Jaira. She starred in the web series ‘Replay: The Moment’ starring Kim Min-chul, Kim Hwi-young, Choi Ju-su and Marco. It unfolds the past from the present in the youth. She is Yoo Ha-young and is a generous and kind-hearted person in the series. She released several OSTs for the drama titled ‘Dreaming About You’ and ‘How To Love (with Neon Paprika)’. The drama was a hit and received 6 million cumulative views.
She sang ‘We Already Fell In Love’ with Minnie as a part of the ‘Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol’ soundtrack in 2020. She relesaed her first solo OST ‘My Destiny’ as a part of the Tale of the Nine-Tailed soundtrack. On 30 November 2020, Miyeon appeared in Seoul Connects U, a variety travel show by MBC and Seoul Tourism Foundation. The program is a time slip that connects the past and present of Seoul through photos in real time.
Cho Mi-yeon was the main host of the Naver Now radio program Gossip Idle in 2021. She hosted the radio weekly every Tuesday at 8 p.m. from February 9. The radio was initially aired to commemorate the comeback of (G)I-dle’s fourth mini album ‘I Burn’. However, later it was returned to the official live show.
Miyeon was one of the new hosts of Mnet’s Muisc program M Countdown with actor Nam Yoon-su. In nine years time period, she became the first female MC on the program. On the day of their first broadcast, they performed on a special stage as they sang a duet song ‘Dream’ by Suzy and Baekhyun.
She appeared on ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’ in 2021 as a hidden card to help BtoB’s ‘Blue Moon (Cinema Ver)’ No Limit stage. In 2021, she starred in the comedy action web series ‘Delivery’ along with Lee Tae-vin. The series was a promotion of the delivery application ‘Delivery Express’ service in Gyeonggi Province. She plays the role of Kwak Doo-sik, a delivery girl who is known for martial arts.
Miyeon collaborated with Raiden on his first EP ‘Love Right Back’ with the lead single ‘Side Effect’ released on 11 October 2021. The single had notable lyrics that convey the emotions felt by the person in love. She also co-featured on Lee Donghae’s B-side track ‘Blue Moon’. She was one of the main leads of the romantic comedy teen drama ‘Adult Trainee’ (2021).
The series depicts the lives of a group of young people and their struggles with love and relationships. On 17 November 2021, she appeared in rapper Kid Milli’s ‘Kitty’. On 27 April 2022, she released her first EP ‘My’ with the lead single ‘Drive’. Miyeon won her first music program trophy at SBS MTV’s The Show.
She collaborated with Song Yuqi on the single ‘Sweet Dream’ (2023) from the album ‘Love to Hate You’. The same year she released the single ‘The Painted On The Moonlight’ from the album ‘My Dearest’.
