Biography of Elkie Chong

Chong Ting-yan widely known as Elkie Chong is a Hong Kong singer and actress currently in China. She was a child actress in Hong Kong’s TVB. She has also appeared in several television dramas. In February 2016, she debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group, CLC, under Cube Entertainment.

The group’s final lineup is composed of Seunghee, Yujin, Seungyeon, Sorn, Yeeun, Elkie, and Eunbin. She requested the termination of her contract with Cube Entertainment in 2020 and left CLC in 2021.

Early Life and Education 

She was born on 2 November 1998 in Hong Kong. She completed her education at Carmel Pak U Secondary School.

Career

She was a popular young celebrity in Hong Kong. She was a child actress under TVB who has featured in more than 20 dramas. During her early years, she was a part of the Hong Kong project girl group Honey Bees.

In 2016, She was introduced to Kwon Eun-bin as a new member of the South Korean girl group CLC. She officially made her debut in Korea with the CLC’x third extended play, ‘Refresh’. Her first public appearance with the group was on the 463rd episode of Mnet’s M Countdown performing ‘High Heels’.

Her K-drama debut was in 2018, in the weekend drama ‘Rich Family’s Son’ as Mong Mong. She played the character of a Chinese foreign exchange student. On 23 November 2018, she made her solo debut with the digital single ‘I Dream’. In 2019, she was featured multiple times in the Chinese drama ‘A Little Thing Called First Love’. She played the character Yang Man Ling, who is in charge of a radio station.

In 2020, she terminated her contract with Cube Entertainment because the company violated the contract. She stated she was not paid for her acting activities and the agency failed to promote their ‘developmental support’ of CLC.

On 3 February 2021, Cube Entertainment confirmed her departure from CLC. She currently stays and is pursuing a career in China. Even though she left CLC she maintains a healthy and good relationship with her former members. In 2021, she collaborated with T.U.B.S member Ji Li [zh] for the song ‘Gave My Heart Away’. In 2023, she did a music video ‘Speed Up’ with director Hsuan Wu Su Zan.
