Biography of Choi Yu-jin
Choi Yu-jin popular by her stage name Yujin is a South Korean singer and actress. She debuted in 2015 as a member of the South Korean girl group CLC. She is at present a member and leader of Kep1er. She got third place in the final episode of the survival show Girls Planet 999. She made her acting debut in 2016 as a supporting role in the Naver TV web drama, ‘Nightmare High’.
Early Life and Education
She was born on 12 August 1996 in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. She did her schooling at Hanlim Multi Art School.
Career
Prior to her debut in 2015 at CLC, she trained for more than 4 years and is the longest-serving trainee among other CLC members. She taught BtoB’s Ilhoon the ‘Gwiyomi Player’ aegyo, which he later popularised on the South Korean Idol variety show ‘Weekly Idol’. Inspired by the gesture Yujin created, Hari released the ‘Gwiyomi Song’ in 2013.
For Cube Entertainment’s first Voice Project, she collaborated with then-Cube artist Yang Yo-seob in ‘Perfume’ on 30 April 2013. She was credited under the pre-debut group Cube Girls. In 2014, Sorn, Seungyeon, Yeeun and Yujin appeared in BtoB’s ‘Beep Beep’ music video. All five original members of CLC appeared in G.NA’s ‘G.NA’s Secret’ and as part of the promotion, they were the back up dancers.
As a part of their pre-debut activities, the band volunteered for street busking performances to help children with developmental disabilities. Their performances garnered attention as warm ‘Hongdae idol’. On 13 March 2013, the group released a self-composed song ‘You’re My Love’. The song was released through the online music portal site Melon and through the official YouTube channel.
Following Yeeun, Sorn and Seungyeon, on 13 March 2015, Cube Entertainment officially released the details of Yujin as their fourth member of the group. She was introduced as a vocalist and dancer of the group of the group. Apart from her alluring visuals, she was a dancer with intense expressions and was capable of dancing in different styles like dance, popping, rocking, and house dance. She is CLC’s top two dancers after Seungyeon. Alongside Got7, B1A4, and other fellow CLC members, she was chosen as the new model for Korea’s clothing brand, SMART Uniform.
She debuted as a member of CLC on 19 May 2015 with the single ‘Pepe’ from the EP ‘First Love’. On 17 August 2015, she joined the cast of ‘Real Man’ for the third season. She was the youngest member among the ten entertainers, including rapper Jessi, Japanese broadcaster Sayuri Fujita and former national tennis player Jeon Mi-ra.
The show propelled her recognition of her skills and visuals. She went viral with the caption ‘Choi Yu-jin’s 3-stage transformation into a female soldier’ from a ‘pretty and fresh girl’ to a ‘dignified baby soldier’ for which she received the nickname ‘Baby Soldier’ and ‘Patriotic Idol’. At the 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards, Yujin shared a stage with cast members Jessi and Kim Hyun-sook performing S.E.S’ ‘I’m Your Girl’.
She made her acting debut in the Naver TV web drama ‘Nightmare High’ as Cheon Yoo-na in 2016. She was the female lead in Green Fever, a prequel to ‘Lily Fever’ (2015). She is the only actress affiliated with Jin Entertainment. She worked with Kim Hye-jun and Jung Yeon-joo.
She made a cameo role in the Netflix drama, ‘So Not Worth It’ in 2021. She was one of the program’s 33 Korean contestants who participated in the Mnet survival show ‘Girls Planet 999’. She topped 3rd and debuted with the winning group, Kep1er. She starred in the web drama ‘Pumpkin Time’ which premiered on 14 December 2021.
