Biography of Chonnasorn

Chonnasorn Sajakul is widely known by her popular nickname and stage name Sorn. She is a Thai singer and internet celebrity in South Korea. She is the winner of the first season of K-Pop Star Hunt (2011).

She debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group CLC under Cube Entertainment. She made her debut in 2015 and left the group in 2021. In 2019, she launched her YouTube channel, Produsorn. On 3 December 2021, she signed with Wild Entertainment Group as a solo artist.

Early Life and Education

Sorn was born to an affluent family on 18 November 1996. As a child, she learned vocal lessons at the Grammy Vocal Studio in Bangkok. From childhood, she wanted to be a singer and started her training at a young age.

Her father, Wanasthana Sajakul, was a former member of the Thai parliament and former manager of the Thailand national football team. She has a half-brother, Teerapat Sajakul, who is an actor and singer in her home country.

She completed her schooling at an international school, in Thailand. She was a student at the KIS International School in Bangkok. She is a graduate of Kent Foreign School in Seoul.

Career

In 2011, she made made artistic debut after becoming the winner of the first season of tvN’s K-Pop Star Hunt. Later, she shifted to Korea for her training at Cube Entertainment at the age of 15. She was the company’s first foreign, non-Korean trainee to enrol. 

In 2012, she collaborated with G.NA for the song ‘Because You Are The One’, which was sung in English. The following year, she appeared in the documentary ‘Seoul: Capital of K-Pop’. The documentary is about her trainee life and her future bandmate, Oh Seung-hee.

She was the first member officially announced for the girl group CLC. The group made their debut on 19 March 2015 with their debut EP ‘First Love’. She terminated her contract with Cube Entertainment on 16 November 2021 and left CLC. She participated in CLC releases like mini-albums, one single album, and two digital singles.

She was active on the United Cube YouTube channel with her Cheat Key live series, Produsorn Live. She had her fellow CLC members featured in the live streaming. This series was Cube Entertainment’s first foray into YouTube.

In 2019, she launched her YouTube channel Produsorn. She uploads videos exclusively like vlogs, song covers, Q&As, and unboxing videos. Her videos are mostly featured by the members of CLC and (G) I-DLE’s Minnie. On 18 August 2021, she restarted her channel by deleting her former videos.

In early 2020, she started posting videos on TikTok and gained popularity and recognition with over 2.5 million followers in 2021.  In 2020, Chonnasorn Sajakul released her first jewellery collection ‘Rise’ in collaboration with Kapsul Collective. She participated in the trot reality show ‘Miss Trot 2’ but unfortunately, she was eliminated in the first round.

In collaboration with VT Cosmetics, she made a surprise launch of her first makeup line, ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ on 8 February 2021. The same year, Cube TV’s Steve JobSon reality programme premiered the set of challenges, the creation and the development of the makeup line.

She officially released the announcement of her solo single release on TikTok and on 18 March 2021, Cube Entertainment confirmed her solo debut. The solo was released on 23 March 2021 with the English digital single Run. She herself contributed to the cover artwork and music video for her debut single.

‘Run’ is an acoustic pop song written and produced by Candace Sosa. The song encompasses the beauty and allure of the season spring. The debut single’s music video was released at midnight on 22 March 2021. The music video was released at 6 pm KST on 23 March 2021 across all platforms.

Alongside Amber Liu, she was featured on Emily Mei’s debut single ‘My Domain’. On 9 November 2021, the song was released on all platforms. On 3 December 2021, Sorn signed with Wild Entertainment Group as a solo artist. In 2022, she released her singles ‘Sharp Objects’ (February 25) ‘Scorpio’ (April 15), and ‘Save Me’, (June 24).

Achievements

Chonnasorn Sajakul is an aspiring novice artist who is producing independent music and is a part of the band CLC. She is active in producing her own videos and vlogs on her YouTube channel. She has yet to receive global recognition for her artistic skills.

Chonnasorn Sajakul is single and is not dating anyone. She likes to keep her personal life private.

In 2017, she campaigned for fair royalty payments for foreign musicians in South Korea. On her Facebook Live, she stated she was paid less when compared to other Korean members. Her agency tried to help her out and the issue was tackled and resolved by the Federation of Korean Music Performers (FKMP).
