Biography of Suho
Kim Jun-myeon popular by his stage name Suho is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actor. He leads the South Korean boy band Exo and its sub-unit Exo-K. His solo debut was on 30 March 2020 with the release of his EP ‘Self Portrait’. Apart from his contribution to the music industry, he has starred in multiple television dramas and movies like ‘One Way Trip’ (2016), ‘The Universe’s Star’ (2017), ‘Rich Man’ (2018), ‘Middle School Girl A’ (2018), and ‘How Are U Bread’ (2020).
Early Life and Education
Suho was born on 22 May 1991 in Seoul, South Korea but was raised in Busan. He was a sharp and energetic student during his elementary school days. He excelled in academics and graduated from Whimoon High School.
He joined Korea National University of Arts in 2009 but discontinued in 2011. Later he enrolled at Kyung Hee Cyber University with Exo fellow members Chanyeol and Baekhyun. He attended the classes for the Culture and Arts Department of Business Administration. He attended Inha University Graduate School for a Master’s degree in Culture Management in 2016.
Career
Suho was discovered at the age of 16, by an SM casting manager and became a trainee through SM Entertainment in 2006. He had a cameo role in the Super Junior film ‘Attack on the Pin-Up Boys’ in 2007.
He was introduced as the tenth member of Exo on 15 February 2012. The band made their first debut with the extended play ‘Mama’ in 2012. For the Korean dub of the animated movie ‘Saving Santa’, Suho voiced the main Bernard. He was the regular host for the 2014 SBS Weekly music show ‘Inkigayo’ with Baekhyun, Kwanghee and Lee Yu-bi. For the release of Exo’s second studio album, Suho and Baekhyun left their positions in 2014.
He starred in SM Entertainment’s hologram musical titled ‘School OZ’ in 2015. He played the character of Hans with other members Changmin, Key, Luna, Xiumin and Seulgi. In the same year, he became a regular cast member in the KBS variety show ‘Fluttering India’ in 2015. They explored a few places in Mumbai, India for the show.
He marked his big-screen debut with the indie film ‘One Way Trip’ which premiered at the 20th Busan International Film Festival. In 2016, Suho starred in the Korean-Chinese web drama ‘How Are U Bread’, where the drama wovens the love story between a genius patisserie and a variety show writer. He and Chen released a duet ‘Beautiful Accident’ in 2016 for the Chinese movie of the same name.
He starred as the male lead in the MBC drama unique ‘The Universe’s Star’. The drama was part of the trilogy named ‘Three Colour Fantasy’ which was released in 2017. He has also recorded an original soundtrack ‘Starlight’ for the theatre. In 2017, Suho collaborated with jazz pianist Song Young-joo for the first season of the last single ‘Curtain’ from the Station Projects. He was the main lead of the film ‘Student A’ (2018).
He starred along with Kim Hwan-hee, Jung Da-bin, Yoo Jae-sung and Jung Da-eun. The movie narrates the life of a teenager who faces hardships and her only form of escapism is online video games. He featured as Crown Prince Rudolf in the musical, ‘The Last Kiss’.
In 2018, Suho collaborated with Jang Jae-in and released two duets titled ‘Dinner’ and ‘Do You Have a Moment’. He made his small screen come back with the South Korean adaption of ‘Rich Man, Poor Woman’ the Japanese drama (2012). He played the role of an IT company founder.
The same year he starred in the musical ‘The Man Who Laughs’ as Gwynplaine, a character of pure heart with a monster-like face. He received a standing ovation for his exceptional acting from the audience. In 2019, Suho starred in Samsung’s latest movie project ‘The Project’ starring Shin Ha-hyun, Kim Seul-gi and Yoo Soo Bin. The short film inspires young people to chase and pursue their dreams. He played the role of a young entrepreneur Ha-neul.
On 30 March 2020, Suho debuted as a solo artist by releasing his debut EP ‘Self-Portrait’ and its lead single ‘Let’s Love’. The single was a chart topper and ranked number one on the Gaon Album Chart. He became the first Exo member to win all three main music shows in Korean broadcast.
On 10 March 2022, Suho released his second mini-album ‘Grey Suit’. On 4 April 2022, following his discharge from the military released the lead single ‘Grey Suit’. The album topped 2 on the worldwide iTunes album chart, reaching #1 on the iTunes ‘Top Albums chart’ in a total of 33 countries.
Thai actor-singer Mew Suppasit collaborated with Suho and released his single ‘Turn Off The Alarm’. In 2022, Suho released ‘Call Me a Freak’ for the K-drama ‘Bad Prosecutor’ starring his bandmate D.O. For the South Korean musical production Mozart!. He was one of the cast members which was performed at the Sejong Center in Seoul.
