Synopsis
Lee Jeong-in (Han Ji-min) is a librarian who is in a 4-year-old non-romantic relationship with her boyfriend, Kwon Gi-seok (Kim Jun-han), a wealthy handsome guy who has a steady job as the department head at a bank.
Gi-seok hardly makes time for Jeong-in, and even when they meet, it inevitably ends in an argument. She hasn’t met or been accepted by Gi-seok’s father in the 4 years they have been dating, which makes Jeong-in reluctant to take the next step to marry Gi-seok.
Jeong-in stumbles into a pharmacy one morning, in need of a hangover cure medication after a night of drinking with her friend. She meets Yoo Ji-ho, a pharmacist and single dad who graduated a year later than Kwon Gi-seok from the same university.

After buying the medications, Jeong-in discovers that she has forgotten her wallet in a hurry at her friend’s house and cannot settle the bill. Ji-ho tells her to settle it later and also pays for her taxi with the intention of seeing her again.
Ji-ho becomes attracted to Jeong-in after their first meeting and does not respond to her texts intentionally, so she has to pay him back in person. Later, when Jeong-in revisits the pharmacy to settle her bill, he implies his feelings during their conversation.

Ji-ho refuses the proposal and tells him she is already in a relationship. Ji-ho hesitantly admits that he is a single parent with a son from a previous relationship and shares the social stigma he faced as a single father.
This interaction leads them to self-realisation and gradually to a booming relationship. Meanwhile, Jeong-in and Gi-seok’s parents are pressuring them to get married, but Jeong-in doesn’t feel like she is ready for this big step since she is uncertain about her relationship with Gi-seok.

Jeong-in and Ji-ho embark on a secret relationship regardless of familial and societal expectations. Ji-ho’s life as a single parent raises objections from her father. Jeong-in’s father works at Gi-seok’s father’s company, and if they are getting married, Jeong-in’s father thinks he will be able to work even after retirement.
Another character is introduced, Lee Seo-in (Im Sung-eon), Jeong-in’s eldest sister, who is a broadcasting announcer. She leads a successful and happy life in society’s eyes but is in an abusive marriage with Nam Si-hoon (Lee Moo-saeng), who works as a dentist. Seo-in finally opened up to her sisters, Jeong-in and Lee Jae-in (Joo Min-kyung), a university student, about the crisis she was going through. With the sisters’ support, Seo-in decided to put herself first for the sake of a better tomorrow.

Yoo Ji-ho and Jeong-in realise how difficult it would be to have a relationship, and tension builds between the two as Ji-ho cannot refuse his feelings for Jeong-in and Jeong-in struggles to cover up her feelings for Ji-ho. Finally, she decides to follow her heart. Both have to make uncomfortable decisions and embark on a difficult journey to prove the sincerity of their feelings to their friends and parents.
Ending Explained
The romance and relationships bring to light some toxic expectations of society. It’s hard for Jeong-in and Ji-ho to overcome every challenge of social status and judgment. After an uphill battle for acceptance due to social attitudes, the couple chose to cherish each other and promise to overcome even the most difficult obstacles. Now it’s time to accept what’s meant to be, and they are ready to become a family of three.

Theme
More than a love story, ‘One Spring Night’ is a story about faith and belief. The realistic and authentic drama series portrays pure and raw romance and highlights social issues concerning self-growth, acceptance, societal status, acceptable norms, and parent-child relationships.
‘One Spring Night’ is a drama that shows the struggles that may come with adulthood and draws you into real-life situations that makes you feel the same emotions with such a relatable and realistic plot.
The taboo of being a single parent is well portrayed in the story, along with a journey towards self-realisation and finding the real meaning of a relationship. The sisterly bonds in the story are well portrayed without taking away the focus from the central relationship on which the drama is founded.
