Early Life and Education
Career
Kim Jung-young made her acting debut in 2000 as a female model in a crime-drama film, ‘Real Fiction’ by Kim Ki-duk, starring Joo Jin-mo, Kim Jin-ah and Son Min-seok in the lead roles. Soon after her entry into the acting world, Kim appeared in supporting roles in two films, ‘Bungee Jumping of Their Own’ by Kim Dae-seung and ‘Waikiki Brothers’ by Yim Soon-rye in 2001.
In the same year, the beautiful actor appeared in a leading role in a controversial South Korean film, ‘Bad Guy’, directed by Kim Ki-duk. Although it was a breakthrough role for Jung-young, the film was criticised for its portrayal of gangsters, sexual slavery and prostitution and it was just a minor box-office hit.
In 2003, she won the NETPAC award at the Locarno International Film Festival for her role in the South Korean drama film, ‘Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring’, by Kim Ki-duk. The movie is about a floating Buddhist monastery on a lake in a pristine forest. Moreover, in 2004, the film was also released in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics with English subtitles.
Jung-young made her entry into the television series with the 2012 South Korean drama, ‘How Long I’ve Kissed’, starring Kim Hee-ae, Lee Sung-jae, Lee Tae-ran and Jang Hyun-sung in the lead roles. She played the role of Editor-in-chief in the 2014 South Korean series, ‘Secret Affair’. Whereas in 2015, she appeared in a supporting role as Jung-soon in the drama, ‘Heard It Through the Grapevine’, starring Yoo Jun-sang, Yoo Ho-jeong, Go Ah-sung, and Lee Joon in the lead roles.
Although Kim Jung-young played several minor roles in her career, it took more than a decade for her to be noticed by the audience and critics. She gained prominence with her leading role in the 2014 South Korean film ‘Thread of Lies’, based on a bestselling 2009 novel, ‘Elegant Lies’ by Kim Ryeo-ryeong.
After two years, the stunning South Korean actor Kim Jung-young was cast in four films and seven television dramas. The films, she played in 2016 were ‘Queen of Walking’, ‘Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned’, ‘Merry Christmas Mr. Mo’ and ‘Lost to Shame’. Kim Jung-young’s television series in 2016 were, ‘Signal’, ‘Mrs. Cop 2’, ‘The Vampire Detective’, ‘My Lawyer, Mr. Jo’, ‘Becky’s Back’, ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘Dr. Romantic’.
In 2017, Kim Jung-young was cast in ‘A Single Rider’, which is the directorial debut of Lee Joo-young. She also appeared in two other films, ‘The King’s Case Note’ as a manufacturing court lady and ‘Memoir of a Murderer’ as a Gambling woman. In the same year, Kim Jung-young was cast in seven television series such as ‘Solomon’s Perjury’, ‘Innocent Defendant’, ‘My Father Is Strange’, ‘The Guardians’, ‘Queen for Seven Days’, ‘Hello, My Twenties!’ and ‘Black.
The South Korean drama film, ‘Our Body’ was Kim’s only film in 2018. It was the debut feature film of Han Ka-ram. She appeared in five television dramas, ‘Return’, ‘Tempted’, ‘Let Me Introduce Her’, ‘The Smile Has Left Your Eyes’, and ‘Clean with Passion for Now’.
In 2019, Kim Jung-young appeared in the film, ‘Kim Ji-young: Born 1982’, which is based on the million-seller novel of the same name by Cho Nam-joo. She was cast as a restaurant owner in the film, ‘An Old Lady’ and as Young Moon-hee in the film, ‘Oh! My Gran’. In the same year, Kim Jung-young appeared in four television series, ‘One Spring Night’, ‘Arthdal Chronicles’, ‘Catch the Ghost’, ‘Black Dog: Being A Teacher’.
In 2020, Jung-young appeared in the South Korean film, ‘The Day I Died: Unclosed Case’ by Park Ji-wan. Actors Kim Hye-soo, Lee Jung-eun and Roh Jeong-eui appeared in the lead roles in the film. In the same year, the vibrant actor was seen in six television series, ‘The Game: Towards Zero, ‘The King: Eternal Monarch’ ‘Born Again’, ‘Sweet Munchies’, ‘Chip In’, ‘Do You Like Brahms?’
Kim Jung-young was Yakult in the film, ‘Finding Angel’ and Lee Kyeong-hwa in the film, ‘F20’, released in 2021. She played in six television series, ‘River Where the Moon Rises’, ‘Drama Stage – Mint Condition’, ‘Sell Your Haunted House’, ‘Racket Boys’, ‘Drama Special – F20’ and ‘Jirisan’.
As of 2023, the South Korean film, ‘Gyeong-ah’s Daughter’, released in 2022 is the latest film of Kim. Her television dramas in 2022 are ‘Business Proposal’, ‘Eve’, ‘Anna’ and Bad Prosecutor’ whereas the South Korean television series of Kim Jung-young in 2023 are ‘My Perfect Stranger’, ‘Delightfully Deceitful’ and ‘Bloody Romance’.
