Biography of Kim Ji-hyun
South Korean actress Kim Ji-hyun who appeared in several television series, films and musical plays since her acting debut in 2006, is popular for her roles in the television series, ‘Thirty-Nine‘, ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha‘, ‘Justice’ and ‘The Smile Has Left Your Eyes’ and her film roles in ‘A Little Pond’, ‘The Box’ and ‘Solace’.

South Korean actress Kim Ji-hyun was born on 2 January 1982 in Seoul, South Korea. She is also known as Kim Ji-Hyeon. After completing her schooling at Ulsan Girls’ High School, she studied theatre at Korea National University of Arts.
Career
Stage Actress Kim Ji-hyun
She made her acting debut in 2004 as a member of the Theater Ganda formed by alumni of the Korea National University of Arts even before landing roles in television dramas. She made her acting debut by appearing in the play ‘Mirror Princess Pyeonggang Story’. Some of her notable theatre productions are ‘Eyes of Dawn’, ‘Man of La Mancha’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Sweeney Todd’.
Movies and Dramas
Ji-hyun made her film debut in 2006 with the South Korean film, ‘Solace’, the directorial debut of Byeon Seung-wook. The romantic film follows the story of a pharmacist and a counterfeit designer item seller, who develop feelings for each other after a chance encounter. She played the role of Lee Mi-ran in the film. Although she played a minor role in the film, she was able to prove her skills to take on more roles in her career. Next year, she began her first commercial work with the musical Finding Kim Jong-wook.
Her K-Drama stint started with a romantic comedy ‘Cooking Up Romance’ which revolves around a family-run restaurant selling Korean traditional beef soup, directed by Lee Deok-gun in 2008. She played the role of a supporting character, Kim Mi-sun along with the lead actors Oh Yeon-seo, Kim Sung-eun, Jung Min and Kang Kyung-joon.
Next year in 2009, she appeared in the South Korean feature film, ‘A Little Pond’, by Lee Sang-woo portraying the massacre of South Korean refugees by the American soldiers at No Gun Ri in 1950. The name of her role in the film was Hyun.
In 2010, Ji-hyun appeared in two television series. She featured as Chwi-ran in the ‘Jejungwon’ series and as Heo Yang-mi in the series, ‘My Sister’s March’. After four years, she made an appearance in the role of Min-hee in a special episode of the television drama, ‘I’m Dying Soon’.
Kim Ji-hyun played the role of Jang Se-ran in the 2018 television series, ‘The Smile Has Left Your Eyes’, the remake of the 2002 Japanese television series, ‘Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi’. She appeared in two television dramas in 2019, ‘Justice’ and ‘Romance Is a Bonus Book‘. In the very next year, she was featured in the 2020 television series starring Ji Chang-wook and Kim Yoo-jung, ‘Backstreet Rookie’, the first Korean drama funded by the global channel Lifetime.
Ji-hyun had perfect chemistry with the popular EXO boy group member Park Chanyeol, in terms of acting and hitting pitch-perfect notes. She showcased her musical talent well with Park Chanyeol in the road film, ‘The Box’. She appeared in the role of Na-na in this film about a young man who undertakes a life-changing journey to help him overcome his paralyzing stage fright.
In the same year, she played the manager role in the two episodes of the drama, ‘Prison Playbook’ and as Seon-ah in ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’, she was able to gain honours and take more steps towards becoming a more famed actress. Although she had a very short screen time, she proved through her excellent performances that you can still leave the biggest impact.
Recently, she played a lead role in the 2022 South Korean television series, ‘Thirty-Nine‘ co-starring Son Ye-jin and Jeon Mi-do. This series revolves around the friendship, life, romance and love of three friends who are reaching forty.
