The Major Winners: ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ and ‘Lovely Runner’

The popular K-dramas of 2024, ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ and ‘Lovely Runner’ did not leave the show freehand.

Both shows won numerous awards in various categories. The other major competitors were ‘The Tale of Lady Ok’, ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call’, and ‘Doubt’.

Inspired by the real-life story, ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ presents the viewers with a couple from Jeju. The characters Oh Ae-sun and Yang Gwan-sik, played by IU and Park Bo-gum, respectively, entered the hearts of the viewers without much hurdle. Many of the viewers find the sweet and sour life story of Oh Ae-sun and Yang Gwan-sik relatable to their lives. Though the actors IU and Park Bo-gum could not get their hands on the best actor and best actress awards, they became the best couple in viewers’ hearts unopposed. (Watch the show on Netflix.)

The other categories in which the drama received acknowledgement are best screenplay, best supporting actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, and best drama.

The time-slip drama, ‘Lovely Runner’, was a showstopper of 2024. The couple portrayed by the actors Kim Hye-yoon and Byeon Woo-seok won the PRIZM popularity award. With its intriguing storyline, the show was a box office hit.
