Biography of Yuqi
Song Yuqi popularly and widely known as Yuqi, is a Chinese singer, songwriter, record producer and dancer. She is an admired soloist active in China. She is a member of the South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE along with members Minnie, Miyeon, Soyeon and Shuhua, which debuted in 2018.
Early Life and Education
Yuqi was born on 23 September 1999 in Beijing, China. She attended Beijing 101 Middle School. She participated in the Cube Star World Audition at Beijing Station in 2015. She performed CLC’s ‘High Heels’ and G.E.M.’s ‘Bubble’. She won the audition and became a trainee of Cube Entertainment.
Career
In 2018, she appeared in a YouTube video introducing herself as an idol trainee. The video caught the eye after she debuted with (G)I-DLE. On 11 January 2021, (G)I-DLE released their fourth EP ‘I Burn’, where she co-wrote and co-composed the song ‘Lost’. She wrote the Chinese lyrics for the Chinese version of their lead single ‘Hwaa’.
She was focused on promoting as a solo artist in China in 2021. On 6 May 2021, Cube Entertainment announced Yuqi’s official debut as a soloist with the single album ‘A Page’. The album has the lead singles ‘Giant’ and ‘Bonnie & Clyde’. She was a contestant in the music talent survival show ‘Stage Boom’.

She featured in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games theme song ‘Salute to the Heroes’. In 2021, she was featured in various Chinese variety shows ‘Keep Running’, ‘Let’s Fall In Love 3, ‘2060’, and ‘Shine! Super Brothers’.
Yuqi returned to South Korea for (G)I-DLE’s comeback in the latter half of 2021. The Group released their first studio album ‘I Never Die’ on 14 March 2022. She participated in writing and composing the tracks ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Liar’. She was the panellist in the TVING web series ‘Zero-Sum Game’. Yuqi co-composed the track ‘Rain’, with (G)I-DLE groupmate Cho Mi-yeon for her debut extended play ‘My’. She co-composed the tracks ‘Reset’ and ‘Dark’ (X-File) from the fifth extended play ‘I Love’.
For Netflix’s romantic comedy series ‘Love to Hate You’ soundtrack, Yuqi and Miyeon released the song, ‘Sweet Dream’. She collaborated with the EDM producer team HypeerTime on the song ‘Not Cinderella’. The song was for the KakaoPage webtoon ‘I Wasn’t the Cinderella’. She returned to the big screen as the main cast member of ‘Keep Running’ (season 11).
She had an active role in writing and composing the tracks ‘All Night’ and ‘Peter Pan’ from (G)I-DLE’s sixth EP, ‘I Feel’. From Choi’s second single album ‘Hate XX’, Yuqi was the featured artist for the lead single ‘Hate Rodrigo’. She made her acting debut in the Netflix original series ‘Celebrity’.

She played the role of Zhang Wei, a Chinese influencer and the series depicts the mystery of the people who become social media influencers. As part of the soundtrack of the Mnet dance competition show ‘Street Woman Fighter 2’, Yuqi and Miyeon released the single ‘How to Twerk’.
