South Korean actor cum singer Yoon Kye-sang, became active in both television series and films with leading roles in romantic comedies, ‘My 19 Year Old Sister-in-Law’, ‘Who Are You?’, ‘Crazy for You’, The Moonlight of Seoul’ and ‘The Executioner’.
Early Life and Education
Career
Yoon Kye-sang began his entertainment career in 1999 as a member of the K-pop boy band g.o.d and gained popularity with his exceptional musical skills.
However, he made his career in acting in 2004 after debuting in the film, ‘Flying Boys’, directed by Byun Young-joo. The same year, he made his entry to television with the series, ‘My 19-year-old Sister-in-Law’, in a lead role costarring Jung Da-bin, Kim Jaewon and Kim Min-hee.
Kye-sang had to take a break in his career from the entertainment industry, including music and acting at the height of his popularity to do his mandatory military service.
He returned to his acting career in January 2007, with the South Korean drama, ‘Crazy For You’, with Lee Mi-yeon, Go Joon-hee and Lee Jong-hyeok. In this series, he plays the role of a gangster who falls in love with the widow of a man who was accidentally killed.
In 2008, Kye-sang was cast in a role alongside actress Kim Ha-neul in a Korean drama, ‘Lovers of Six Years’. In this television series, they played the role of a couple who have been in a relationship for six years.
Later that year, he appeared in a dual role in a comedy romance television series, ‘Who Are You?’ with the actors Go Ara and Kang Nam-gil. In this drama, he played the role of a cold-hearted corporate raider who, in the aftermath of a traffic accident, becomes possessed by the spirit of a cheerful deliveryman for a few hours each day.
Simultaneously, Yoon Kye-sang played a lead role in a South Korean film, ‘Beastie Boys’, alongside actor Ha Jung-woo. This film narrates the story of male hosts who serve female clients. He gained a lot of appreciation for his gripping performance in this film.
Next year, he played a lighter role in the 2009 South Korean television series, ‘Triple’, co-starring Lee Jung-jae, Lee Sun-kyun, Lee Ha-na, and Min Hyo-rin. After appearing in the slice-of-life drama, he starred in the movie, ‘The Executioner’, about capital punishment in South Korea.
In 2010, Kye-sang became a part of the ensemble cast in the South Korean indie romance melodrama film, ‘Come, Closer’, which follows the broken relationships of five couples. It was the directorial debut of Kim Jong-kwan and starring Jung Yu-mi, Yoon Hee-seok and Yozoh.
In 2011, he appeared in the South Korean thriller film, ‘Poongsan’, directed by Juhn Jai-hong starring Yoon Kye-sang and Kim Gyu-ri.
In 2013, Kye-sang played a lead role in the South Korean short film, ‘One Perfect Day’ directed by Kim Jee-woon, with Park Shin-hye, and Park Soo-jin. Also, he starred in a Chinese film, ‘Hello My Love’, which garnered over 100 million hits. In the same year, he signed with a new talent agency, Saram Entertainment.
He made his comeback to music after a decade, when he marked his reunion with the band g.o.d in 2014 on its 15th anniversary.
In 2014, he appeared in the South Korean television series, ‘Beyond the Clouds’, starring in lead roles with Han Ji-hye and Cho Jin-woong. The same year he played in the melodrama series, ‘The Full Sun’ and this was followed by the romantic comedy film ‘Red Carpet’.
He worked in the film, ‘Minority Opinion’, as a public defender whose client is accused of killing a riot policeman during a forced demolition which was released in 2015.
In 2015, he starred in a cable series, ‘Last’, about a fund manager whose financial ruin leads to life among the homeless living underground at Seoul Station.
Yoon Kye-sang was cast in the Korean remake of the American television series, ‘The Good Wife’ in 2016. He then played the role of a disabled man in a bittersweet drama, ‘The Bacchus Lady’, about an elderly prostitute helmed by E J-yong.
In 2017, he was cast as a villain in the South Korean crime action film, ‘The Outlaws‘, written and directed by Kang Yoon-sung. Also, he starred in the action thriller, ‘Golden Slumber’ in 2018, with Gang Dong-won, Kim Eui-sung, Kim Sung-kyun, Kim Dae-myung, Han Hyo-joo and Yoon Kye-sang.
In 2019, he appeared in ‘Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission’, which narrates the story of two men who travel to the country to collect Korean words in secret in 1910. In the same year, he was cast in the fantasy action film ‘Fluid Renegade’.
South Korean television series, ‘The Kidnapping Day’ starring Yoon Kye-sang, Park Sung-hoon, Jeon Yu-na, Kim Shin-rok, Kim Sang-ho, Seo Jae-hee, and Kang Young-seok is his latest work as of 2023.

In 2018, Yoon Kye-sang won the 14th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival award under the category of JIMFF Star Award for his work ‘The Outlaws’.

Military Life
Yoon Kye-sang entered his mandatory military service in 2004 and was inducted into the Republic of Korea Army on 7 December 2004 after taking a break from his acting and music career. He was at the height of his popularity when he took a break from the entertainment industry.
In 2006, after completing basic training and service in military service, he was reassigned to work as an entertainment soldier, as part of the new Korean Forces Network group in the army. This group provides television and radio broadcasts to soldiers and also lets celebrities maintain a public profile during their military service.
On 6 December 2006, he was discharged from the army and resumed his entertainment career in 2007.
Personal Life
Although Yoon Kye-sang started dating Sung Yu-ri of the girl group Fin. K.L. in 1999, both of them were not ready to reveal their relationship to the public. However, he said later that their relationship lasted for six years and ended when he entered military service in 2014.
In June 2021, his agency confirmed his relationship with a non-celebrity and on 13 August 2021, he registered his marriage with her. On 9 June 2022, they tied the knot officially.
