Biography of U-Kwon
Kim Yu-kwon celebrated by his stage name U-Kwon is a South Korean singer. He is the vocalist and dancer in the South Korean boy band Block B. He is a member of the sub-unit Bastarz along with fellow members P.O and B-Bomb and the sub-unit T2u with Taeil.
Early Life and EducationÂ
Born on 9 April 1992 in Suwon, South Korea. He has an older brother Kim Yu-sin. He completed his education at Kwanyang Middle School and Anyang Technical High School in the Department of Electro-Mechanical. He is a graduate of Global Cyber University from the Department of Theater and Film and Digital Seoul Culture Arts University.
Career
On 13 April 2011, U-Kwon made his first debut with Block B’s ‘Do U Wanna B?’. Four years later, he participated in Block B’s first sub-unit Bastarz along with fellow members P.O and B-Bomb. The group’s first album was released on 13 April 2015. The second album was released on 31 October 2016. He and B-Bomb recorded the song ‘Bingle Bingle’ for the Block B album ‘Blooming Period’ released on 11 April 2016. He composed his first Japanese solo, ‘Painless’ and starred in the film short vampire film ‘Q Chan’ on 24 June 2016.
U-Kwon was cast in the idol dance competition show ‘Hit the Stage’. He participated in the show pairing with YooA. He won the premiere episode of the show and was portrayed as the Joker. In the end, they were ranked fourth. Meeting the choreographer Rie Hata, he became inspired to improve his dancing skills.
Kim Yu-kwon and P.O. received the Maxim K-Model Icon Idol Award in 2017. In the special unit T2u, he and Taeil performed a seven-show, six-city tour of Japan from August 26 to September 7 in 2017. Along with P.O. and Japanese rapper Chanmina, he participated in the Japanese project  Block B: Project-1.
In company with Nancy of Momoland and Shownu of Monsta X, he hosted the music show ‘The Power of K’. The show was broadcast in 2018 in both Korea and Japan. For the web drama ‘Jugglers’, Kim Yu-kwon and singer Rothy released an OST song ‘Baby Baby’. Jugglers narrates the story of an office romance comedy drama of a boss who is less considerate about people and his surroundings.
On 8 January 2018, Block B released the album ‘Re: Montage’ with the solo song of U-Kwon titled ‘Everything’. He performed and composed the very same song. For Block B’s ‘The Best’ album, he wrote the Japanese lyrics for the T2u song ‘Good Bye’ (2018). For the sub-units debut album, T2U he wrote the Japanese lyrics to the song ‘Ocean’. On 12 August 2022, in Haha’s Twitch stream, he announced he was working independently and left KQ Entertainment.
Achievements
As a budding artist discovering his career in music and acting, he has yet to receive awards and nominations. As an artist, he has displayed his talents by collaborating with his band and through solo artistic endeavours. He has already established himself as an artist and is focusing on his future projects.
Military Life
On 8 May 2020, KQ Entertainment officially announced U-Kwon’s enlistment in the military service. Following his basic military training, he served as an active-duty soldier. He was officially discharged on 21 November 2021.
Personal Life
In 2012, in December Kim Yu-kwon announced his relationship with the model Jun Sun-hye. On 1 May 2022, she announced their breakup stating they remained friends.
