Biography of Park Bo-young

Park Bo-young is a South Korean actress under BH Entertainment. She is famous for her leading roles in the super-hit films, ‘On Your Wedding Day‘, ‘Scandal Makers’, ‘A Werewolf Boy’ and the television series, ‘Doom at Your Service’, ‘Oh My Ghost‘, ‘Strong Girl Bong-soon‘, and ‘Abyss’.

Early Life and Education

Park Bo-young was born on 12 February 1990. She lived with his parents Park Wan-soo and Choi Jeong-ok. Her father served as a soldier in the Special Forces for around 34 years. While in middle school, she appeared in a short film, ‘Equal’ in 2005. When she was in high school, she first appeared on television with a public advertisement for Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power. She graduated in Theatre and Film from Dankook University’s Department of Performing Arts.

Career

Actress Park Bo-young made her official entry into the entertainment industry in 2006 with the high school television series, ‘Secret Campus’ co-starring with his fellow newcomer Lee Min-ho. Some of the notable projects during his initial career days of Bo-young are the historical epic ‘The King and I’ and ‘Jungle Fish’, co-acting with Kim Soo-hyun.

Park Bo-young rose to popularity soon after playing opposite Cha Tae-hyun and Wang Seok-hyeon in the 2008 South Korean film, ‘Scandal Makers’ and received a lot of appreciation for her role as a spunky teenage mom.

Next year, she was cast in a human rights-themed short film, ‘If You Were Me 4’, directed by Lee Hyun-seung. 

Due to some legal disputes with her film production agency and then management agency in 2010, she was forced to stop her work for a few years.

Finally, Bo-young ended her four-year absence from the limelight and returned by headlining the 2012 horror thriller, ‘Don’t Click’ about a forbidden video that curses people to death. Later that year, Bo-young co-starred with Song Joong-ki in the fantasy romance film, ‘A Werewolf Boy’, in which she played the role of a beautiful teenage girl. This film, directed by Jo Sung-hee became one of the most successful all-time Korean films.

In 2013, Bo-young was cast in a reality-documentary program, ‘Law of the Jungle’, featuring comedian Kim Byung-man and several celebrities.

In 2014, she played a serious indecent leader of a high school gang in the South Korean teen romantic comedy film, ‘Hot Young Bloods’, set in the 1980s. In the very next year, she appeared in a lead role in the South Korean mystery-thriller film, ‘The Silenced’ co-starring Uhm Ji-won.

In 2015, she appeared in lead dual roles in the South Korean television series, ‘Oh My Ghost’ with Jo Jung-suk, Lim Ju-hwan and Kim Seul-gi. This television series is her first K-drama in seven years and it was commercially successful and critically acclaimed.

Park Bo-young acted in a lead role in the 2017 South Korean television series, ‘Strong Girl Bong-soon’, playing the role of a woman with superhuman strength and co-starring with Park Hyung-sik and Ji Soo. This series became one of the highest-rated Korean dramas in the television series history.

In 2018, she starred in the South Korean romantic comedy film, ‘On Your Wedding Day‘ with Kim Young-kwang. The very next year, she was cast in the 2019 television series, ‘Abyss’, alongside Ahn Hyo-seop and Lee Sung-jae. In this series, she played the role of a beautiful prosecutor who changes into a plain-looking girl.

In 2020, she signed an exclusive contract with BH Entertainment after parting ways with her ten-year agency, Fides Spatium in 2019.

In 2020, Park Bo-young was cast in a fantasy romance series, ‘Doom at Your Service’, starring alongside Seo In-guk. In this series, she played the role of a web novel editor in a publishing company Life Story after the death of her parents in an accident.

In 2023, she played a lead role in a disaster thriller film, ‘Concrete Utopia’, co-starring Lee Byung-hun and Park Seo-joon.

As of 2023, she is all set to star in the upcoming Netflix series, ‘Daily Dose of Sunshine‘, and its first episode will be released in November 2023.
