Biography of Mina 

Japanese singer and dancer Mina Myoi, popularly known by her stage name Mina, was born on March 24, 1997, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. She later moved to South Korea. She is one of the three Japanese members of the South Korean girl group TWICE, which was founded by JYP Entertainment in 2015.

Early Life

Sachiko and Akira Myoi are the parents who gave birth to Mina on March 24, 1997 in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States. She was born in the United States but was raised in the Japanese city of Nishinomiya in the Hygo Prefecture. Her father is an orthopaedic surgeon at Suita’s Osaka University Hospital. She has a sibling named Kai, who is five years older than her. Mina began her ballet training at a young age and practised it for eleven years before making her singing debut in TWICE. In Takarazuka, Hygo, she attended Obayashi Sacred Heart School. She relocated to South Korea to work as a trainee and so she was not able to complete her studies.

It was revealed in 2017 that Mina has a dual citizenship of USA and Japan. She no longer has U.S. citizenship as of 2019, according to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Career and Achievements

When Mina was out shopping with her mother in Osaka, a JYP Entertainment recruiter approached her and offered her an audition. She moved to South Korea in January 2014 to start training there as a trainee at JYP Entertainment. In 2015, Mina took part in the JYP Entertainment and Mnet co-produced South Korean reality television programme ‘Sixteen’. She joined the newly formed girl group TWICE after being one of the nine eligible candidates who participated.

When TWICE’s first extended play, ‘The Story Begins’, was released in October 2015, Mina made her public entrance as a band member. The TWICE’s lead single ‘Like Ooh-Ahh’, which is the first K-pop debut song reached 100 million YouTube views. As a result of her extreme anxiety and insecurity surrounding onstage performances, Mina withdrew from the Twicelights World Tour, which was announced on July 11, 2019 by JYP Entertainment. According to a report from February 2020, Mina’s health had improved and she was prepared to perform live again with the band TWICE.
