Born on 9 November 1996, commonly known as Momo, she is a popular Japanese singer, rapper and dancer in South Korea. Under JYP Entertainment, she is one of the three Japanese members of the South Korean girl group called TWICE. Early Life and Pre-Debut Period
Momo Hirai was born in Kyotanabe, Kyoto, Japan. At the age of three, she began dancing with her elder sister, Hana Hirai, who is two years older than her. Amuro Namie inspired her to pursue singing and she became interested in K-pop after watching Rain and Lee Hyori. She trained at Step Out Studio throughout her childhood, and JYP Entertainments spotted her after watching a dance video of her and her elder sister. Both of them received invitations to the 2011 JYP Japan Auditions, which took place in Osaka on 19 November 2011, and Tokyo on 25 November 2011, respectively.
She was successful at the audition, but her sister did not make it. Later, she moved to South Korea for her JYP traineeship along with TWICE’s Sana on 13 April 2012. She starred in the music videos for Got7’s “Stop Stop It” and the Japanese MV of Junho’s “Feel” in 2014. The subsequent year, she performed in the South Korean girl group called Miss A’s ” Only You”. She appeared in the South Korean reality television show Sixteen in 2015, which was created by JYP Entertainment and co-produced by Mnet.
