Overview of 2NE1
South Korean girl group 2NE1 was formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. The group has four members: Bom, CL, Dara and Minzy. The girl group is known for expanding styles in the Korean music industry after breaking typical stereotypes of K-pop, musical experimentation, fashion, and stage presence.
History, Formation & More
Although there were a lot of speculations about the upcoming girl group of YG Entertainment in 2008, the agency confirmed the four-member girl group in early 2009. The band’s first extended play ‘2NE1’ was preceded by two singles.
On 27 March 2009, Big Bang and Lollipop recorded a song, ‘Lollipop’ to promote the LG Cyon phone of the same name.
In May they released a single, ‘Fire’ featuring hip-hop and reggae elements and the videos accumulated over one million views within 24 hours of its release.
The same year in July the final single ‘I Dont Care’, was released along with the band’s first eponymous EP. This song became the most downloaded song of the year.
2NE1 released ‘Try to Follow Me’, digitally to promote the Samsung Corby cellphone, with no prior announcement in February 2010. The music band travelled to Los Angeles and London to record English-language songs for an American debut album with a music producer recording 10 songs in their initial sessions in mid-2010.
On 9 September 2010, 2NE1 released its first full-length album, ‘To Anyone’ and amassed 120,000 preorders before its release. The group became the first group in K-pop history to have three singles from one album top different music program charts. On 31 October, the music band released a Halloween-themed music video, ‘It Hurts (Slow)’, for the fourth single from ‘To Anyone’.
Global Breakthrough
English Language version of ‘Can’t Nobody’ was released by the Japanese digital retailer Recochoku as a ringtone and ringback tone on 19 January 2011. The Japanese debut single of the group, ‘Go Away’ was released as a ringtone on 9 March 2011 as it was used as a theme song for a Japanese television programme.
The group released their second EP with hits ‘Lonely’, ‘I Am the Best’ and ‘Ugly’, and the top-three hit ‘Hate You’.
In September, 2NE1 embarked on their first Japanese concert tour at the Yokohama Arena as part of their Nolza Tour. Also, 2NEI’s Japanese edition of the 2nd Mini Album was released on 21 September 2011, selling over 48,000 copies making the group the second South Korean girl group to top the Oricon Albums Chart in its history. In the same year, they also released the Japanese versions of ‘I Am the Best’, ‘Hate You’, ‘Go Away’, and ‘Lonely.
2NE1 won their first American award on 10 November 2011 with their song ‘I Am the Best’. The music band released their debut full-length Japanese album, ‘Collection’ on 28 March 2012 together with their second single, ‘Scream’.
Alongside American and Japanese hip-hop artists, 2NE1 was invited to perform at the 2012 Springroove festival in Japan.
The band also performed at the opening ceremony of the International Recognized Exhibition, ‘Expo 2012’, in Yeosu in May 2012.
At the end of May, 2NE1 began their first worldwide concert tour and second overall on the New Evolution Global Tour, including 15 shows throughout Asia and North America. 2NE1 became the first K-pop girl group to be listed on the Billboard Current Box Score list following the team’s Los Angeles concert.
In collaboration with American singer Will.i.am, 2NE1 released the English-language single, ‘Take the World On’ on 14 March 2013. The group received worldwide recognition at the end of 2014 after the Japanese edition of ‘Crush’ was released on 25 June 2014.
Disbandment & Goodbye
In 2015, 2NE1 became one of the two Asian performers honoured at the YouTube Music Awards in March.
On 25 November 2016, YG Entertainment announced that 2NE1 would be disbanding and on 21 January 2017, the group released their last single ‘Goodbye’, recorded by its last three members.

Bom
South Korean singer Park Bom also known as Bom is a member of the South Korean girl group 2NE1. She was born on 24 March 1984 in Seoul, South Korea.
She started her musical career in 2006, featuring singles released by labelmates Big Bang, Lexy, and Masta Wu. She debuted as a member of 2NE1 as the main vocalist in 2009.
Bom left YG Entertainment after 2NE1’s disbandment in November 2016 and signed with D-Nation Entertainment in July 2018. The Instagram ID of Bom is newharoobompark.
CL
CL, also known as Lee Chae-rin, is a South Korean rapper, singer, and songwriter. She was a former member of the girl group ‘2NE1’. CL is a talented songwriter and has written several songs to date.
CL was born on 26 February 1991, in Seoul, South Korea with the name Lee Chae-rin. She began her career as the leader and main rapper of the K-pop group 2NE1.
Her influence extends beyond music into the fashion industry. She is regarded as a style icon and a fashion industry figure.
Although CL has been rumoured to have been involved with several male celebrities in the past, she has never publicly confirmed any romantic relationships. The Instagram ID of CL is chaelincl.
Dara
South Korean singer, actress and television presenter Sandara Park known mononymously as Dara was born on 12 November 1984.
She rose to popularity in the Philippines as a contestant in 2004 on the talent show, ‘Star Circle Quest’. She was successful in acting and singing before returning to South Korea in 2007.
Dara became a member of the K-pop group 2NEI IN 2009 and continued in the team until its disbandment in 2016. The official Instagram ID of Dara is daraxxi.
Minzy
South Korean singer, rapper, and dancer Gong Min-ji better known by her stage name Minzy was born on 18 January 1994. She is the granddaughter of folk dancer Gong Ok-jin.
In 2009, she debuted as a South Korean girl group 2NE1 member and departed in April 2016. The Instagram ID of Minzy is _minzy_mz.
