Biography of Jo Bo-ah
Jo Bo-ah is a South Korean actor, also known by the names Cho Bo-ah and Jo Bo-yoon. She was born in Daejeon, South Korea on 22 August 1991. Debuting in a minute role in the sitcom ‘I Live in Cheongdam-dong’, Jo Bo-ah has gained international recognition through K-dramas like Tale of the Nine Tailed (2020), Forest (2020), and Destined With You (2023). Despite dramas, Bo-ah has appeared in several web series and television shows.
Early Life and Education
Jo Bo-ah was born as the eldest daughter of her parents on 22 August 1991. She has a younger sister and her family belongs to the Changnyeong Jo clan. She learned Performing Arts at Sungkyunkwan University. Nevertheless, her dream to become a flight attendant compelled her to pursue the course Aviation and Tourism at Hanseo University. As part of her course at Hanseo University, she was included in the ‘Asiana Airlines Flight Attendant Experience class’, but later, she continued her Performing Arts studies at Sungkyunkwan University.
Career
Jo Bo-ah stepped into the South Korean entertainment industry through the sitcom television show ‘I Live in Cheongdam-dong’ in 2011. In 2012, she appeared as Im Soo-ah in the tvN series ‘Shut Up Flower Boy Band’. ‘The King’s Doctor’ was her second television series released in the same year.
In 2013, she became the MC of M Countdown, a weekly music show streamed on Mnet, along with Kim Woo-bin.
She made her big-screen debut in 2014 in the movie ‘Innocent Thing’. She gained wide recognition for giving life to the character of a teenage student who becomes extremely obsessed with her married sports teacher. Later, she played the role of a mermaid (Kim Ha-ni/Aileen) in the tvN series ‘The Idle Mermaid’.
In the 2015 drama ‘The Missing’, she appeared as a detective. She also starred in the drama ‘All About My Mom’ and the web series ‘Love Cells 2’ in the same year.
In 2016, Jo Bo-ah was featured in the melodrama ‘Monster’ and in the comedy series ‘Sweet Stranger and Me’. The next year, she appeared in the drama ‘Temperature of Love’.
She was critically acclaimed for appearing in the webtoon-based TV series ‘Goodbye to Goodbye’ released in 2018. The drama revolves around the lives of two ladies (Jung Hyo and Seo Young-hee), and Bo-ah plays the character of Jung Hyo. Later, she appeared in ‘My Strange Hero’.
2020 was a breakthrough year in the career of Bo-ah. She appeared in television drama series like ‘Forest’ and ‘Tale of the Nine Tailed’. Her fame rose internationally for her performance in ‘Tale of the Nine Tailed’. In the drama, she appeared as Nam Ji-ah, opposite Lee Dong-wook.
After expiring her contract with SidusHQ, she signed in with KeyEast in 2021.
She played the character of a military prosecutor in the 2022 drama ‘Military Prosecutor Doberman’. In the 2023 romantic fantasy drama ‘Destined With You’, she played the role of a civil servant.
Her contract with KeyEast expired at the end of January 2024. Therefore, she signed in with XYZ Studio on 16 February 2024.
Jo Bo-ah has joined hands with the cast of the upcoming Netflix series ‘Hong Rang.’ The drama is adapted from a novel of the same name. Kim Hong-sun will direct the drama penned by Kim Jin-ah. It will feature Lee Jae-wook and Jo Bo-ah in lead roles. Actors like Jung Ga-ram, Uhm Ji-won, and Park Byung-eun are included in the supporting cast.
