Biography of Yoo Jun-sang

South Korean actor and singer Yoo Jun-sang under Namoo Actors and Private Curve, praised for his supporting roles in the films ‘Wide Awake’ and ‘Moss’ is also popular for his film roles in ‘In Another Country’, ‘Hahaha’ and ‘The Day He Arrives’. Early Life and Education

Yoo Jun-sang was born on 28 November 1969 in Seongdong, Seoul in South Korea. He is 53 years old as of 2023. After completing his school education at Seoul Eonbuk Elementary School, Sincheon Middle School and Daewon Foreign Language High School, Jun-sang earned a bachelor’s degree in Theater and Film and a Master’s degree in Theater Arts from Dongguk University and Myongji University respectively.

Career

Yoo Jun-sang kicked off his acting career in 1995 after attending the open audition through SBS. He has been a full-time faculty member at the Korean Arts Institute and appeared in several stage musicals, including ‘The Three Musketeers’, ‘Jack the Ripper’, ‘Rebecca’, Frankenstein, ‘Kim Kwang-seok’s jukebox musical The Days’ and ‘Notably Claws of Angel’.

Although Jun-sang started his acting career in 1995, his memorable role came in 2010 as a cynical prosecutor in the blockbuster mystery film ‘Moss’, based on a popular online comic series. He won the top prize in the ‘Uncertain Regard section of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival’, after starring in the South Korean comedy-drama film, ‘Hahaha’ directed by Hong Sang-soo.

Jun-sang made his lead appearance in 2011 with the South Korean drama film, ‘The Day He Arrives’, directed by Hong Sang-soo, which earned him the Best Actor prize at the Busan Film Critics Awards.

Yoo Jun-sang returned to the television series after five years with the series, ‘My Husband Got a Family’ co-starring with Kim Nam-joo. The K-drama was a big hit and ranked number one on the 2012 yearly TV ratings chart. In the same year, Jun-sang appeared in four K-movies, ‘In Another Country’, ‘R2B: Return to Base’, ‘Touch’ and ‘Zambezia’.

In 2013, Jun-sang appeared in two different television series. He played the role of Hong Gyung-doo in the series, ‘The Secret of Birth’ and as section Chief Yoo in the Korean drama, ‘My Love from the Star’. In the same year, he appeared in two television series, ‘Nobody’s Daughter Haewon’ as Joong-sik and in the drama ‘Fists of Legend’ as Lee Sang-hoon.

After two years, he appeared in the television series, ‘Heard It Through the Grapevine’ as Han Jeong-ho starring alongside Yoo Jun-sang, Yoo Ho-jeong, Go Ah-sung, and Lee Joon. He also acted in four films in 2015. He played the role of a detective in the film, ‘A Matter of Interpretation’, a painter in the film, ‘Angry Painter’, Ahn Seong-gook as ‘Right Now, Wrong Then’ and in the role as Heungseon Daewongun in the film, ‘The Map Against The World’.

Jun-sang appeared in a cameo role in the television series, ‘Working Mom Parenting Daddy’ as Lee Moon-han in 2016. During the same year, he appeared in the police procedural crime drama television series, ‘Pied Piper’, in which he played the role of Yoon Hee-sung, who is the real Pied Piper, an anchor for TNN Night News channel.

In 2017, he played the role of a Dead firefighter in the South Korean fantasy action film, ‘Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds’, directed by Kim Yong-hwa. He also acted in the series, ‘Distorted’ starring along with starring Namkoong Min, Uhm Ji-won, Jeon Hye-bin and Moon Sung-keun.

After two years in 2019, Jun-sang appeared in the series, ‘Liver or Die’ as 47-year-old Lee Poong-sang costarring Yoo Jun-sang, Oh Ji-ho, Jeon Hye-bin, Lee Si-young and Cha Seo-won. 

Next year in 2020, he was cast in the television series, ‘Graceful Friends’, starring Song Yoon-ah, Bae Soo-bin, Han Eun-jung, Kim Sung-oh, Kim Hye-eun, Jung Suk-yong, Lee In-hye, Kim Won-hae and Kim Ji-young in prominent roles.

The latest films of Jun-sang are ‘Honest Candidate 2’, ‘The Boys’ and drama are ‘The Uncanny Counter’, ‘The Penthouse: War in Life’ and ‘Alchemy of Souls’, as of 2023.

Yoo Jun-sang, who began his career through an open audition in SBS, built a stable acting career through films and TV series. His wonderful performances garnered him lots of achievements. Some of his notable achievements are:-

In 2003, the South Korean actor Yoo Jun-sang married actress Hong Eun-hee and they have two children. His elder son Yoo Dong-woo is an actor and his son is Yoo Min-jae. Besides singing, acting and writing, Jun-sang plays several musical instruments, including saxophone, violin, guitar and the piano.
