Ji-yeon was born on 23 June 1990 in Seongdong District, Seoul, South Korea. She has an older sister and a younger brother.
Ji-yeon always dreamt of becoming an actress. She was inspired by the musical ‘Cats’ as a child. While in high school, she learnt humanities and joined the Korea National University of Arts to pursue her studies, majoring in acting and pursuing her path of acting.

In 2011, Ji-yeon made her debut through the short film ‘Dear Catastrophe’. She appeared in the short film ‘When September Ends’ in 2013. While a student at the Korea National University of Arts, she came to screen her debut film ‘Obsessed’.
The film was released in 2014 and earned her praiseworthy awards like ‘Best New Actress’ in the 51st Grand Bell Awards and was nominated for the 51st Baeksang Arts Awards. Ji-yeon was selected as the model for Amorepacific Hanyul cosmetics for her elegance and beauty.
Ji-yeon acted in the period drama film ‘The Treacherous’ in 2015 directed by Min Kyu-dong. The same year she made her small-screen debut with the series ‘High Society’ along with Uee, Sung Joon and Park Hyung-sik.
