Biography of Jang Woo-hyuk
Jang Woo-hyuk is a South Korean singer, South Korean rapper, choreographer and DJ under WH Creative. He first debuted in 1996 as a member of the popular and best-selling K-pop group H.O.T. The group consisted of five members: Moon Hee-joon, Jang Woo-hyuk, Tony Ahn, Kangta, and Lee Jae-won. After the group’s disbandment, the members pursued a solo career.
Woo-hyuk and the other two members formed the boy group JTL which was active from 2001 to 2003. As a solo artist, he released his succesful two full-length albums and two extended plays. He is the founder of the entertainment agency WH Entertainment.

H.O.T
Jang Woo-hyuk is popular for his strong vocals in his rap and as a dancer of the group H.O.T. He is widely recognised for his famous hammer dance from H.O.T.’s debut single; ‘Candy’ and is nicknamed Hammer Boy. In 2001, H.O.T disbanded due to contract issues and along with Tony An and Lee Jae Won, formed the trio JTL.
JTL
When the band H.O.T. disbanded, fans had mixed feelings for JTL. As an independent band, JTL produced several music videos but it was boycotted and their performance was hindered by ex-agency SM Entertainment. The tables turned when JTL held a ‘Guerilla Concert’ in front of 12,000 fans.
Solo Artistry
In 2003, JTL unofficially disbanded and its members began pursuing solo careers. He became the CEO of a dancing academy, Newest Entertainment. He collaborated with several popular K-pop musicians like Kenzie, Pang Shi Hyuk, and many others.
For music lovers who enjoy R&B style beats, he mixed it with a blend of hip hop and his unique vocals and released, ‘No More Drama’. For the release of the solo album, he underwent 10 months of dance training.
With the release of solo hits, Woo-hyuk became popular in the Chinese and Taiwanese markets. In the poll conducted to find the most popular South Korean singer in China? on China’s largest portal site, sina.com, Woo Hyuk topped two categories.
He had a keen interest in performing in China and Taiwan. In 2006, he held his first promotion in China and also created his official fan club in China. However, he has never held a concert in Taiwan. In 2010, he signed a contract to sing in China. It is said that he might consider rejoining H.O.T.
His new album ‘I Am The Future’ includes the singles ‘Time is [L]over’, ‘I am the Future’, and ‘Minimalism’. His live comeback was with the performance of the single ‘Time Is [L]over ‘ on Strong Heart. He released his new single ‘Weekend Night’ and held a fan meeting, ‘From Echo’ which happened both online and offline on 17 December 2022.
