Biography of Moon Hee-joon
Moon Hee-joon is a South Korean pop-rock singer-songwriter under SidusHQ. He rose to prominence and recognition as the former boy band H.O.T leader under SM Entertainment.
Early Life & Education
Debut in H.O.T
Moon Hee-joon was the second member to join H.O.T. He debuted as a singer and leader of the boy group H.O.T. The group debuted with their first album ‘We Hate All Kinds of Violence’ in 1996. The band had to face social criticism for being plagiarized and lawsuits were placed against them.
Despite their controversial debut, the band released their first hit ‘Candy’ and ‘We Are the Future’. The band’s relentless pursuits paved the way for fame and global recognition. The band won the MTV Award for ‘Best International Video’.
He mostly composed and wrote music for the band. Jang Woo-hyuk also choreographed the group’s dance. Even though H.O.T. had great success after the release of their last album ‘Outside Castle’ in 2000. The group disbanded in 2001.
Solo Artist and Leaving S.M. Entertainment
After the group’s disbandment, Moon Hee-joon stayed in the S.M. Entertainment with Kangta and debuted as a solo artist. He experimented and tried to establish a rock music career with his first album ‘Alone’. He received social criticism for his new type of music.
He released his second album, ‘Messiah’. ‘Media’, one of the songs in the album received widespread criticism for attacking mass media and was banned from all 3 major broadcasting stations in South Korea. In 2003, he released his third album ‘Legend’ followed by the release of ‘The Best: Soaring for a Dream’, which was his last album under S.M. Entertainment. Later, he created his own company, PS Entertainment, and released his fourth album, ‘Triple X’. In 2005, he enlisted in the army.
Military Service and SidusHQ
Before his enlistment, he signed a contract with SidusHQ. While in the army, he hosted the KFN Korean Army Broadcast ‘Music Talk Show’, which received positive feedback and appreciation from various Korean artists. In 2008, he released his fifth album ‘Special Album’, composed of H.O.T.’s previous albums. In 2009, he released his first mini album ‘Last Cry’ and appeared in ‘Taehee, Hyegyo, and Jihyun’. Subsequently, he stepped away from the music scene, taking a break.
Other Activities
Although he was absent from the music scene, he participated in hosting several variety programs such as ‘Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend’, ‘Mnet’s ‘Wide Celebrity News’ and other programs. On 18 January 2013, he released his second mini album ‘Begins’ after three 3 years of break.
Moon Hee-joon along with other former bandmate Tony An from H.O.T., Eun Ji-won from Sechs Kies, Danny Ahn from g.o.d, and Chun Myung-hoon from NRG starred in the variety-reality television show called ‘Handsome Boys of the 20th Century’. After the success of ‘Reply 1997’, along with the other four members they participated in the reality variety show ‘Handsome Boys of the 20th Century’. To represent their respective idol group names, they coined the name ‘HOTSechgodRG’.
The group appeared on shows like KBS’s ‘Happy Together’ and SBS’s ‘Running Man’. Expect Eun, the group met at Moon’s bachelor party which was shown on ‘My Little Old Boy’, the reality show that Tony An was participating in. In 2015, he signed a contract with KOEN Stars.

The wedding was held in Seoul and the pair welcomed their first child, daughter Moon Hee-yul on 12 May 2017. On 5 February 2022, the couple announced their second pregnancy and welcomed their second child, son Moon Hee-woo, who was born on 7 September 2022.
