Biography of Hongseok
Yang Hong-seok popular by the stage name Hongseok is a South Korean singer and actor. His first appearance was as a vocalist for the group boy band Pentagon in 2016. His entry into Korean movies was in ‘The Love That’s Left’. Pentagon is a South Korean multi-national boy band formed by Cube Entertainment in 2016 consisting of nine members: Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok.
Early Life and Education
Hongseok was born on 17 April 1994 in Seoul, South Korea. He has an older brother, Jun-seok. He has lived outside of South Korea for a total of 11 years and has studied in the United States, China, and Singapore. He was a student at Hwa Chong International School in Singapore.
Career
In 2014, he joined YG Entertainment. He actively participated in the reality survival program Mix & Match as a TEAM B. Unfortunately he was eliminated in the final episode failing to debut as a member of the boy group iKON. In 2015, he left YG Entertainment and joined Cube Entertainment. The following year, he modelled with Hyuna for the fashion brand Clride.n.
In 2016, he participated in the Mnet reality survival show Pentagon Maker and made it to the final lineup of Pentagon. On 10 October 2016, he debuted with Pentagon with the song ‘Gorilla’ from their self-titled EP.
He made his acting debut in the movie ‘The Love That’s Left’ in 2017. The following year he was a cast member of Visiting Tutor, a CelebMentor variety program. He was cast in the variety program Real Man 300. The show ended in late January 2019.
In 2019, he co-starred in the television drama Best Chicken as Bae Ki-bum. The same year he starred in the first web drama ‘On The Campus’. He was the featured model for the July 2019 issue of Men’s Health’s Korea. He was cast in the reality-documentary show Law of the Jungle in Myanmar. He performed a cover of Huh Gak’s ‘Hello’.
In 2020, he and his bandmate Kino made a cameo in the web drama ‘Twenty-Twenty’. His second appearance on the cover of Men’s Health Korea for the December 2020 issue.
He starred as the supporting character Shin A-jun in the SBS drama ‘Phoenix’ 2020. His other music movies include ‘Move to Heaven’ and ‘Blue Birthday’ (2021). In 2023, he terminated his exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment and signed with acting agency Andmarq.

Hongseok was tossed in the whirlpool of rumours with Lee Soo-hyun. A photo posted by a fan went viral as he was spotted in Seoul with a female companion.
Pentagon’s agency, Cube Entertainment responded, “It is true that the individuals in the photo are Yang Hongseok and Lee Soo-hyun; however, they are not dating. They are just friends.”
Further, they stated, “The two met for the first time in a long time so they had a meal together and went to Cheonggyecheon because the weather was nice that day. If they were dating, they would not have been so boldly out and about like that. The two are not dating.”
