Biography of Gunwoo
Lee Gun-woo widely known as Gunwoo is a South Korean singer and actor. Initially, he studied sports but later decided to become a singer at the age of 20. He relocated to Seoul to pursue his career.
Gunwoo signed to H2 Media and he debuted with the boy group Myname. The group is composed of five members: Gunwoo, Insoo, Seyong, Jun.Q, and Chaejin. He served as the leader and the main vocalist for the quintet. His acting debut was in Shinokubo Story (2013). His first studio album, ‘I Am 27’ (2016) was independent from Myname which was released in Japan in January.
Early Life and Education
Gunwoo was born on 30 January 1989. He was the second child and the first son to his family. He had a great love for sports and played soccer in middle school. He attended Woosong University to study sports. He was interested in fashion and owned a fashion shop in Apgujeong-dong.
At the age of 20, he decided to pursue a career in singing which his parents opposed. He relocated to Seoul from Daejeon to become a singer. He auditioned for H2 Media singing Kang Min-kyung’s ‘Go to the Hospital’ and danced to G-Dragon’s ‘Heartbreaker’. He was accepted as a trainee for his performance.
Career
Gunwoo is a member of the South Korean boy group Myname. It was created by Fly to the Sky’s Hwanhee under H2 Media. He is the leader and the main vocalist and the other members include Insoo, Jun.O Seyong, and Chaejin. The group debuted on 27 October 2011 with their digital single ‘Message’.
He made his acting debut in the film ‘Shinokubo Story (2013)’. The film narrates the plot of five characters who are trying to become stars. Chaejin nurtures showbiz dreams while talent agent Utako tries to think of ways to promote idols Gun Woo and JunQ, who are newbies in South Korea.
On 30 January 2016, he released his first studio album ‘I Am 27’ in Japan. The album consisted a total of 10 tracks with eight self-produced tracks and two cover songs. He held a release event at the Tower Records store in Shinuya. On the country’s national Oricon Albums Chart, the album ranked number 39. His first Showcase Live was on 28 February 2016 in order to promote ‘I Am 27’.
