Biography of DK
Kim Donghyuk popular by the stage name DK is a South Korean singer and dancer. He is the main dancer, lead vocalist, sub-rapper, choreographer and current main producer of the boy group iKON.
Early Life and Education
DK was born on 3 January 1997 in Yongin-si, South Korea. His father died when he was 8 years old. He has a younger sister, Esther who is studying in the USA. He completed his education in Atlanta, Georgia as an exchange student.
He was inspired by the K-drama ‘Bodygaurd’ and his childhood dream was to become a bodygaurd and later switched to become a teacher in middle school. He is best at aegyo (cute display of expression) since his grandmother treats him like a young boy.
Career
He began his career, when he was first recruited by SM Entertainment on the streets. To prepare for the SM audition, he studied dance at a dance academy. During training he also appeared in the JYP public casting. He won the first place at the 9th JYP Open Audition (2012).
He received a call for private casting from YG Entertainment in 2012. He was a participant in the survival program ‘WIN: Who is Next’ in 2013 as a member of Team B. As team A won and debuted as ‘Winner’, the team B went back for training. Later, team B, participated in ‘Mix and Match’ and he is the last member selected to join iKon.
The group made their official debut on 15 September 2015 with the pre-release digital single ‘My Type’. Later, leader B.I departed from the group in 2019 and it became a six member group with members Jay, Song, Bobby, Ju-ne and Chan.
Throughout each episode’s filming, his passion and skills have only increased. Over the course of the years his dancing skills have intensified when compared to his pre-debut vidoes.
His vocals were notable with a sweeter and more clear vocal performance that it impressed both Taeyang and Song Mino during the final episodes of ‘Mix and Match’. His versatile singles includes- ‘BLING BLING’, ‘DRAGON’, ‘Dive’, ‘DONT FORGET’, ‘LONG TIME NO SEE’, ‘I Miss You So Bad’, ‘RUBBER BAND’, and many more.
In iKon’s songs, DK’s falsetto sets itself apart the most. His high range is noteworthy and most stable in iKon. As a dancer, DK’s moves are smooth and sharp with a unique style that he has received compliments from many professionals like Antony Lee and Vihn Nguyen from Kinjaz.
