Synopsis
Moon Ha-won (Jung Hae-In) is an AI programmer and he is the founder of AH Company. He grew up in Oslo, Norway with his mother and his childhood friend Kim Ji-soo (Park Ju-hyun). A tragedy took his mother away, leaving Ha-won with no family other than Ji-soo.

Later, Moon Ha-won’s grandmother adopted him to the Moon family and he started a new life with them without Kim Ji-soo by his side. Deeply affected by the devastating past, Ha-won clings to his 10-year unrequited love for Ji-soo.
Another character is introduced, Han Seo-woo (Chae Soo-bin), a girl with a positive and bright personality who became a classical sound engineer. She has the same past as Moon Ha-won. Her family passed away due to a fire in her home town. After that incident, she relocated to Seoul and never went back to her hometown despite her life struggles.

The AI innovator Moon Ha-won created a machine that can take a part of one’s personality, their voice to talk with them even without the physical existence of that person. Ha-won decides to develop a device with Kim Ji-soo’s personality as he finds comfort in listening to her through the machine. This particular wish leads Ha-won towards the sound engineer Seo-woo.
Han Seo-woo’s manager gives her a task in which she will work for Ha-won in recording her voice for the machine and after that, Ha-won can start developing a device with Kim Ji-soo’s personality.
Initially, Ha-won didn’t think he would create a friendship with Seo-woo after meeting her a few times. However, they gradually became closer after they had some planned meetings. With their unexpected closeness, Ha-won and Seo-woo found comfort in each other. They both have troubled pasts, haunted by people and places, and their lives become tangled up with each other when Seo-woo meets Kim Ji-soo, Ha-won’s old love.
Kang In-wook’s Untold Past

Kang In-wook has an untold past, back in Norway, as he was actually involved in Ha-won’s mother’s death. In-wook lied to Ha-won’s mother that Ha-won was on his way back instead of taking emergency shelter in school during a snowstorm. Upon hearing this, Ha-won’s mother panicked and she went out to deliver Ha-won’s and Ji-soo’s snow boots. Unfortunately, the snowstorm took Ha-won’s mother’s life away.
Kang In-wook’s wife Kim Ji-soo came to know about her husband’s sinful past and the truth in turn makes Ji-soo miserable and sours their marital relationship in the present. Everything becomes messier as Ji-soo flies to Norway by herself to take a walk down memory lane and to apologize to Ha-won for his mother’s demise on behalf of In-wook, and she unforeseeably succumbs to a blizzard and dies in an unexpected snowstorm.
Ending Explained
Moon Ha-won was unable to get over Kim Ji-soo’s demise. Han Seo-woo gets to know about Ji-soo’s and Ha-won’s tragic love story and helps Ha-won get over his attachment with Kim Ji-soo. This also gave Seo-woo the strength to overcome her past demons. She finally visited her old house in the countryside where her parents were killed during the fires so many years ago.
Ha-won and Seo-woo finally found comfort and encouragement in each other’s presence brought by Ji-soo’s demise. They were bonded by more than just romance as both could understand each other’s pain over losing loved ones and they both had strong passions for music and sound. Moon Ha-won was finally able to let go of Ji-soo and eventually forgave her husband for all the grief he caused. Ha-won came so forward in life only because of the strength of Seo-woo by his side.

Theme
‘A Piece of Your Mind’ portrays grief as the main aspect and how the characters dealt with grief and pain caused by the death of a family member, a broken relationship or a sorer past self. The story is about the life of two who wander in the pain of losing their loved ones: one who is deeply agonizing over a loved one’s absence and another who is extremely grieving for one’s loss. The slow-paced drama is a well-painted sketch of intense emotions.
Each character presents their specific approach in life while striving for happiness and they bravely overcome their grief. Ha-won’s unrequited love for Ji-soo helped him endure life’s bitterness and with Seo-woo’s influence, he finally overcame traumas and let go of emotional baggage. Both Seo-woo and Ha-won held on for far too long. This sheds light on the acceptance and deep understanding of ‘give and take’ in a healthy relationship.
