Biography of An Yu-jin

An Yu-jin popularly known as Yujin is a South Korean singer. She is the leader of the South Korean girl group Ive under Starship Entertainment. The group is composed of six members: Gaeul, Yujin, Rei, Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo. She is a former member of the South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One.

Early Life and Education

Yujin was born on 1 September 2003 in Sannam-dong, North Chungcheong, South Korea. She has an older sister. She completed her education at the School of Performing Arts in Seoul. She dropped out of school to focus on her career as a member of Iz*One. During those times, she continued her education at home-schooling.

Career

In 2018, she represented Starship Entertainment for the reality girl group survival show ‘Produce 48’. She performed along with Jang Won-young and Cho Ka-hyeon and won the fifth place. After winning, she debuted with Iz*One with the group’s debut extended play ‘Color*Iz’ on 29 October 2018. The group made their debut with the lead single ‘La Vie en Rose’.

After her debut with Iz*One, she participated in the televised singing competition ‘King of Mask Singer’ as the youngest competitor. For the first time in the show’s history, she was the youngest, aged 15 years and 99 days.

She was one of the cast members for the MBC’s ‘My Little Television V2’ along with Kim Gu-ra. From episode 34 she was removed from the casting members due to the Mnet vote manipulation investigation. She hosted the music program ‘Inkigayo’ with NCT’s Sungchan and Treasure’s Jihoon.

When Iz*One disbanded in 2021, she and groupmate Wonyoung returned to Starship Entertainment as trainees. On 1 November 2021, Starship Entertainment officially announced they would debut their new girl group, Ive.

Since the debut of ‘Cravity’ in 2020, Ive has been the label’s first group and the first girl group since WJSN’s debut in 2016. She became the leader and one of the main vocalists of Ive. They made their official debut on 1 December 2021, with the single album ‘Eleven’.

She was the panellist on season two of the ‘military survival’ reality show ‘Steel Troops in 2022’. She initiated the tvN variety show ‘Earth Arcade’ alongside ‘Oh My Girl’s’ Mimi, Lee Young-ji, and Lee Eun-ji. The same year she was selected to host the ’28th Dream Concert’.

As part of the Gatorade and Starship Entertainment campaign, she released the music video for their promotional single, titled ‘Move Like This’ along with Kang Daniel and Yuna Kim. At the Gocheok Sky Dome, she hosted the year-end SBS Gayo Daejeon festival along with Key and Cha Eun-woo.

On 10 April 2023, Ive released their first studio album, ‘I’ve Ive’. She wrote the track titled ‘Heroine’. She attended Milan Fashion Week as the ambassador for fashion brand Fendi.
