Biography of Won Bin

Kim Do-jin popularly known as Won Bin is a South Korean actor. He rose to popularity through the KBS television series, ‘Autumn in My Heart’ in 2000. The show was directed by Yoon Seok-ho and the script was written by Oh Soo-yeon. He is one of the most selective actors in the Korean entertainment industry, appearing in a small number of movies. His filmography includes ‘Guns & Talks’ from 2001, ‘Taegukgi’ from 2004, ‘Mother’ from 2009, and ‘The Man from Nowhere’ from 2010. He received the Gallup Korea Film Actor of the Year award in 2010 and 2011.

Early Life

While still in high school, he first entered the acting enterprise in 1995. He participated in numerous dramas and attended training sessions held at the station’s headquarters. Following that, he was committed to an acting deal with a talent agency.

Career

Won Bin made his acting debut in 1997 in the supporting role of ‘Propose’. He appeared in ‘Ready Go!’ in 1998. He later enrolled in acting classes at Paekche Institute of the Arts in 1998. He played the lead role in ‘Kwangki’ and gained recognition for his performance. Yoon Seok-ho directed ‘Kwangki’, which premiered in 1999.

His most well-known films, ‘Tough Guy’s Love’ (also known as Kkokji) and ‘Autumn in My Heart’, cemented his stardom and fame. Song Myeong-tae and Han Te-suk are his famous characters in the two films. The film was a commercial success and pioneering in Korean melodramatic series. He was listed in the A-list of Korean performers. Director Yoon Seok-ho and writer Oh Soo-yeon collaborated on the television series ‘Autumn in my Heart’. It is a South Korean romantic television drama starring Won, Song Seung-heon, and Song Hye-kyo in the lead roles. For ‘Autumn in my Heart’, he won the 37th Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actor for TV and for 2000 KBS Drama Awards for Excellence Award for Actor.

He has also appeared in many well-known movies. ‘Guns & Talks’, a black comedy from South Korea from 2001, was directed by Jang Jin and starred Won, Shin Hyun-joon, Shin Ha-kyun, Jung Jae-young, and Jung Jin-young. The movie was the most popular domestic release in South Korea and it dominated the box office. Additionally, the actor appeared in the 2004 movie ‘My Brother’. The film topped the box office and was ranked as the sixth best-selling South Korean film of 2004. Through the film ‘Taegukgi’, he achieved notoriety and popularity internationally for the movie. The movie was a huge hit and had the best box office performance in South Korea in 2004.

On September 6, 2007, he was chosen to represent the Korean Committee as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He also actively participates in a number of UNICEF-related programs and charitable events in Korea. Additionally, he has made several appearances in commercials. He played the role of Yoon Do-joon in the 2008 movie ‘Mother’. He starred in Lee Jeong-beom’s action-crime film ‘The Man from Nowhere’.

Military Life

His mandatory service in the South Korean Army derailed his career. He began his military service in November 2005, after his graduation from the School of Arts at Yong-In University. He voluntarily was stationed at the Korean Demilitarized Zone. He had surgery and was sidelined due to his ACL injury. He was discharged on June 7th, 2006. He underwent a rehabilitation program for the injury for more than a year after the surgery.

Personal Life

In a private ceremony on May 30, 2015, Won and South Korean actress Lee Na-young tied the knot after dating for roughly two years. While employed by the same company, Eden 9, Lee Young and Won first met each other. Their agency announced to the media that couple were expecting their first child. Their son was born in a hospital in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
