‘The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil’ is a South Korean action crime thriller written and directed by Lee Won-tae. A new serial killer drives into the city. He commits his first kill after creating an accident by driving his car into a stranger’s vehicle. Jung Tae-suk, the officer who investigates the accident, finds it as a murder by a serial killer. However, his suspicion of the involvement of a serial killer is rejected by his senior officer.

One day, Jang Dong-soo, crosses paths with the same serial killer. The serial killer creates an accident to kill Jang Dong-soo in the same way as earlier to kill him. He escapes from the accident and fights with the serial killer. The fight ends by causing injuries to both of them, but Jang Dong-soo could not capture the stranger.

After the surprise attack, Jang Dong-soo gets hospitalised. His team suspects the attack as the plan of the rival gang. After rewinding the fight in his mind, Jang Dong-soo confirms it has no connection with the rival gang. Jung Tae-suk visits Jang Dong-soo in the hospital to inquire about the murder attempt. Jang Dong-soo denies his cooperation with Jung Tae-suk’s team and orders his team to investigate the case.

Jang Dong-soo shares the sketch and the killer’s licence plate details with his team. Using the provided information, his men discover a car and a knife. After giving enough thought, Jang Dong-soo forwards the acquired information to Jung Tae-suk.

Jung Tae-suk is eager to catch the criminal to secure a promotion by solving the mysterious cases. However, being injured by the killer, Jang Dong-soo wants to punish him with his hand. Finally, they come up with a contract conditions for the combined mission. The killer belongs to the man who catches him first.

Jang Dong-soo is not ready to sit quietly. He commits another crime using his henchman. Obeying the orders of Jang Dong-soo, Kwon Oh-sung kills Heo Sang-do, a rival, using the serial killer’s knife. Jang Dong-soo tries to manipulate the crime since the knife has blood stains from the previous murder.

Jung Tae-suk finds out about the manipulation and confronts Jang Dong-soo. The murder of Heo Sang-do with the killer’s knife results in moving the case to the hands of the major case squared. Afterwards, both Jang Dong-soo and the serial killer attend the funeral of the dead man. The serial killer proves his innocence to Sang-do’s henchmen.

Later, when Jang Dong-soo and Jung Tae-suk are inspecting the killer’s car, they get attacked by Sang-do’s loyal henchmen. In the fight, they kill one of the enemies. Jang Dong-soo hides the body by blurring it.

Jung Tae-suk gets a new missing case to investigate, and in his investigation about the missing person, he doubts the missing person and the serial killer as the same man. He communicates his thoughts with Jang Dong-soo and plays a voice recording to confirm the doubt.

One day, Jang Dong-soo gives his umbrella to a little girl who is in trouble due to the unexpected rain. That day, the girl gets killed, and Jang Dong-soo and Jung Tae-suk visit the crime site. The duo’s search for the culprit takes them to his car. After a fight, Jang Dong-soo arrest him and takes him away from Jung Tae-suk for torturing him.

Learning the plan of Jang Dong-soo, Jung Tae-suk attacks Jang Dong-soo. He produces the killer in front of the law and identifies him as Kang Kyung-ho. However, in the absence of adequate evidence, it is difficult to confirm the serial killer and the missing man are the same person. Therefore, Jung Tae-suk asks Jang Dong-soo to explain his encounter with the serial killer.

After the decisive testimony of Jang Dong-soo, the law confirm Kang Kyung-ho as the missing person and the serial killer. However, Jang Dong-soo fails to cover up his crime of killing Heo Sang-do. Therefore, the court orders a life sentence for Kyung-ho and imprisons Jang Dong-soo for his crime.

By uncovering the mystery and capturing the serial killer, Tae-suk gets promoted to the senior rank. Meanwhile, in the prison, Dong-soo appears in front of Kang Kyung-ho to kill him. He has a rope in his hands and a crooked smile on his face. The scene reveals the chance that Jang Dong-soo gained by trading his decisive testimony.


The film is an investigative crime thriller narrating the story of revenge. It shows the fight for justice and revenge. Jang Dong-soo, a gangster accidentally encounters a serial killer. Hurting his pride, the killer escapes after wounding him. To seek revenge, he starts his search for the killer. To speed up the investigation he allies with a police officer, who is eagerly waiting to get promoted. The movie has interesting plot twists and fight scenes.
