Se-wan is strict towards the students in the dormitory to keep order in the dormitories as well as to keep her perks. Se-wan spends most of her time with her dormmates. Jamie is a new student at the dorm from America. Sam is the son of the president of a Tteokbokki global food chain who grew up in Australia.

Minnie is a student from Thailand who has a lot of fantasies from watching Korean dramas and has an interest in Korean culture. Hyun-min is a stateless Korean native and, thus, is not allowed to stay at the international dormitory. Hyun-min has to commute five hours each day to school, and because of his exhausting commute to school, he wishes to stay in the dormitory.

Se-wan, Minnie, and Carson are the three girls in the dorm, and they stay in a room together. Se-wan is a South Korean girl who does many part-time jobs for a living. The American student, Carson, always behaves like a granny at times; her boyfriend is in the army; and Minnie is a cute girl with an obsession with Korean dramas.

Another character is introduced, Terris (Terris Brown), from Trinidad. He is a graduate student. Terris and Hans (Joakim Sorensen) are roommates. Min-hyun, Terris’s friend, sneaks peeks into the dorm at times. Terris has a girlfriend, and he stays with her for a few days, so Hyun-min stays there instead of Terris as he comes to university travelling for 5 long hours.

The youngest member of the dorm, Sam, and the newcomer, Jamie, are roommates. Sam is handsome yet mischievous, and Jamie is a reserved person. One day, Se-wan deceives Jamie that he broke her mobile and makes him work all day to repair her mobile. This developed a friendship between them.

A series of theft activities were happening in the dorm, and all the stolen things were just disappearing. No one was able to track down the mysterious theft. One day, Jamie gave his limited-edition sneakers to Hyun-min, as Hyun-min was so excited to see them. The thief stole those sneakers, and Hyun-min got them back after catching the thief one night.

One of the dorm members, Hans, is obedient to the rules and proudly talks to others in such a way that he knows everything about Korea and Korean culture. Due to this attitude, he gets tricked into a con scheme, and his friends save him.

Se-wan’s Misery

One day, an incident happened when Jamie misunderstood a siren sound as war broke signal and went into the base and locked the door. Along with Jamie, Se-wan, Terris, and Hyun-min were all there in base. They were all trapped inside for the whole day because the door was broken. The next day, Hyun-min’s mother left her younger baby with him, and she went off to date her new boyfriend. Hyun-min is already staying there secretly and has a tough time taking care of his baby brother.

A lady comes to the university in search of Se-wan, as her mother borrowed a lot of money and disappeared. This incident makes her depressed, as she is already in misery. Se-wan does multiple jobs just for a better living, and now she also needs to settle her mother’s debt as well.

Jamie has a feeling for Se-wan, and Se-wan goes on a blind date to make Jamie jealous. Eventually, Jamie and Se-wan get closer, and Hyun-min misunderstands that Jamie has a crush on Carson, and he even does matchmaking for them. Surprising news came out, and everyone was shocked to know that Jamie is the son of a great Hollywood actress. Minnie and Sam fight over a 6-day stay in the hotel, and he eventually starts to develop feelings for Minnie. At times, he gets vexed hearing of long lists of Minnie’s boyfriends.

Ending Explained

Se-wan’s mother’s visit made her so stressed that she decided to participate in a talent show and display her singing talent. Se-wan decides to get plastic surgery so that she can win the prize money of the show to pay off her debts. Jamie strongly opposes her decision to get the surgery done. Jamie also heads into surgery to get his face changed, but Se-wan walks in to stop it and apologises to him for being greedy. The ending is a happy one because the couple gets together and stays together, and the issues shown are mostly resolved.

At last, Hyun-min was kicked out of the dorm, and now he has nowhere to stay. He bumps into Jun-yeong’s tutor, and she kindly offers him a place to stay.

Theme

The sitcom portrays the everyday lives of a group of students attending an international university, with a focus on their social interactions. The drama is of a totally different genre as students come to South Korea from all over the globe and bring their different sensibilities and knowledge of Korean culture to their college lives. The characters face something new each day, and the way they deal with it sheds light on the great chemistry between the actors, who seem to play off the energies that they fed each other.

The funny, heart-soothing, and friendship drama is indeed good laughter therapy. New relations and new friendships lead to new experiences inside a vibrant college dormitory in Korea that’s home to students from around the world.

The storyline is incredibly well-written, and though it has a fun essence to it, the drama deals with extremely sensitive issues like love, relationships, breakups, poverty, stardom, and sexual identity, blending them with comic elements.
