Park Jun-won is commonly known by his stage name pH-1. He is a Korean-American rapper in South Korea. He signed to H1ghr Music, the international hip-hop and R&B record label founded by Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone. His recognition and acclaim rose to stardom after he appeared in Mnet’s hip-hop survival programme ‘Show Me the Money 777’.
Early Life and Education
Park Jun-won was born on 23 July 1989 in South Korea. Around the age of 12, he and his family relocated to America. He grew up on Long Island, New York for 15 years. He studied biology at Boston College and he worked as a dental assistant post-graduation. He later got into a web development company. His unique stage name is a combination of his name. The ‘p’ is from his surname Park, ‘H’ is from his English name Harry and ‘Won’ is from the Korean name Park Jun-won.
Career
pH-1 marked his entry into the music industry with the release of his debut singles ‘Wavy’ and ‘Perfect’ in 2016. The following year he signed with H1ghr Music. On 18 October 2018, he released his debut extended play ‘The Island Kid’ under the label Stone Music Entertainment. He featured in the album’s single ‘Donut’. The same year, he released three single albums titled ‘Gatsby’ with the single ‘Penthouse’ featuring Sik-k.
In his second single album ‘Harry’, with his single titled ‘DVD’. The third single ‘Loves’ had the track ‘Cupid’ featuring Penomeco. He appeared on ‘Show Me the Money 777’ and gained recognition. He released his debut studio album ‘HALO’ with two tracks titled ‘Like Me’ and ‘Malibu’ featuring ‘The Quiett’, Mokyo on 28 March 2019 and in 2020, he released his debut mixtape titled ‘X’. He has participated in H1ghr Music’s compilation albums ‘H1ghr: Red Tape’ and ‘H1ghr: Blue Tape’. His second studio album is titled ‘But for Now Leave Me Alone’ in 2022 with the song ‘Mr. Bad’ featuring Woo Won-Jae.
pH-1 is popularly celebrated for his richly melodic singing raps. His inspiration does not confine to one particular genre alone, rather he gets his inspiration from jazz, pop, R&B and gospel music. The three words he emphasizes and employs in his music are truth, positivity and experience. Mostly, his songs contain optimistic and truthful messages eliminating references to drugs, money, bragging and sexual content.
He has collaborated with numerous prominent artists. In 2018, he collaborated with Kid Milli, Loopy, featuring Paloalto for his single ‘Good Day’ which topped number four and the Korean Music Content Association ranked it Platinum. In 2020, two of his most notable collaborations are ‘Gang Official Remix’ with Sik-k, Jay Park and Haon and the second Titled ‘Achoo’ with Mirani and Haon. His other notable credits include ‘Zero: Attitude’, ‘Mentors’, ‘Mungpal’, ‘DNA Remix’, ‘ALL IN’, ‘As I Told You’.
