Biography of Oh Yeon-seo
Early Life and Education
Oh Yeon-seo was born on 22 June 1987 in the South Gyeongsang Province in South Korea and was brought up in Changnyeong. She lived her with her grandparents, parents and younger brother.
Although Yeon-seo had participated in the SM Entertainment audition with friends in Daegu, during her middle school education, she was selected. However, 15-year-old Oh Yeon-seo qualified for another audition and debuted her singing in 2002 with the SidusHQ-managed band Luv. The band released their first album, ‘Story’ and then released singles, ‘Orange Girl’ and ‘I Still Believe in You’. Unfortunately, the band was short-lived for six months exclusively.
Oh Yeon-seo completed her schooling at Anyang Arts High School soon after the band was disbanded in 2002 and changed her name from Oh Haet-nim to Oh Yeon-seo. She shifted to acting and enrolled in the theatre and film department of Dongguk University in between.
Career
The beautiful and aspiring actor Oh Yeon-seo debuted acting in 2003 as Lee Ye-rim in the South Korean television drama, ‘Sharp’, which aired from 2003 to 2007 with 165 episodes and three seasons.
In 2006, Yeon-seo appeared in two minor roles in the South Korean television dramas, ‘Stranger Than Paradise’ and ‘Love and Hate’. The same year, she was also seen in the music video ‘Big Mama-BGH4’. The following year, Oh Yeon-seo made her film debut in ‘Herb’ by Heo In-moo as a female teacher. She played the role of Jung Eun-kyung in a South Korean psychological horror film, ‘Someone Behind You’ by Oh Ki-hwan and in the film, ‘May I Cry’ in 2007.
Oh Yeon-seo appeared in the lead role in the 2009 South Korean horror film, ‘A Blood Pledge’, as Yoo-jin. It is the fifth instalment of the supernatural horror film series, ‘Whispering Corridors’. The film varies from other films in the series aside from the setting and overall theme.
From 2008 to 2010, Yeon-seo was cast for multiple films and television dramas, including ‘Our School’s E.T, ‘Happy Killers’, ‘Drama City:LoveForSale.com’, ‘Returned Earthen Bowl’, ‘The Great King, Sejong’, ‘The Great Merchant’, ‘More Charming by the Day’ and ‘Dong Yi’.
In 2011, Oh Yeon-seo was dubbed for the animated character Han Soo-min for the movie, ‘Green Days: Dinosaur and I’. Next year in 2012, the young and astonishing actor Oh Yeon-seo was cast on the television show, ‘We Got Married Season 4’, with Lee Chang-sun, popularly known by the stage name Lee Joon.
At the end of 2012, the talented actor Yeon-seo played her first lead role in a South Korean television series, ‘Here Comes Mr. Oh’, as Na Gong-joo.
In 2013, Oh Yeon-seo appeared as a Thoracic surgeon in the television drama, ‘Medical Top Team’ by Kim Do-hoon. The drama, which focuses on the lives of doctors and nurses, Kwon Sang-woo, Jung Ryeo-won, Ju Ji-hoon and Choi Min-ho were cast in the series.
In the very next year, Yeon-seo played the lead role of Jang Bo-ri in a 2014 South Korean weekend television drama series, ‘Jang Bo-ri Is Here!’. The drama, starring Kim Ji-hoon, Lee Yu-ri and Oh Chang-seok, won the Drama of the Year Award at the 2014 MBC Drama Awards.
Yeon-seo was Shin Yool in the 2015 South Korean television series, ‘Shine or Go Crazy’, based on a novel holding the same name by Hyun Go-woon. Actors Jang Hyuk, Lee Hanee and Lim Ju-hwan played the lead roles in the drama, about the romance between a Goryeo prince and a Balhae princess.
In 2016, the worthy actor, Oh Yeon-seo appeared in a television series, ‘Come Back Mister’ by Shin Yoon-sub. Her role as Han Hongnan, who is a male character reincarnated as a female in the series, left a deep impression on the audience. In the same year, Oh Yeon-seo starred in the film, ‘Take Off 2’ by Jong Hyun-kim, which is the sequel to the 2009 movie ‘Take Off’.
Oh Yeon-seo played the lead role of Princess Hye-myung, in the 2017 South Korean television drama, ‘My Sassy Girl’. The drama is based on a box-office hit 2001 South Korean movie, ‘My Sassy Girl’ by Kwak Jae-yong, starring Joo Won, Lee Jung-shin and Kim Yoon-hye in the lead roles. By the end of the same year, Oh Yeon-seo signed a contract with the new management agency Celltrion Entertainment.
In 2018, the stunning actor Yeon-seo played the main role in the romantic thriller film, ‘Cheese in the Trap’ as Hong Seol, an ordinary university student.
In 2019, she appeared in the series, ‘Love with Flaws’, starring Ahn Jae-hyun, Kim Seul-gi, Gu Won, and Heo Jung-min in the lead roles. Oh Yeon-seo signed a contract with the new agency SidusHQ in 2019. In 2021, Oh Yeon-seo was cast in the web drama ‘Mad for Each Other’ alongside South Korean actor Jung Woo and the drama premiered on May 24.
The latest film of the promising actor Yeon-seo is ‘Men of Plastic’ by Lim Jin-sun, co-starring Ma Dong-seok and Jung Kyung-ho in the lead roles in 2022. Yeon-seo appeared as Hong Gyu-ok, the director of an Apgujeong VIP aesthetic shop in a South Korean comedy film. Whereas her latest television series in 2022 is ‘Café Minamdang’, based on a web novel, ‘Minamdang: Case Note’.
