Early Life
Career
Debut with AOA and Solo Activities
On Mnet’s M Countdown on July 30, 2012, Kwon made her television debut as a member of AOA performing the song ‘Elvis’ from their debut single album, ‘Angels’ Story’. She was also a member of the 2013-founded band AOA Black. She took a break from her professional activities due to the demise of her father on November 29, 2014.
Kwon made her acting debut in 2013’s KBS2 drama special ‘Adolescence Medley’, in which she portrayed Yoon Jin-yeong. She portrayed Cha Hye-won, a younger version of Kim Hee-character, Sun’s in the KBS drama ‘Wonderful Days’ in February 2014. In the SBS weekend drama ‘Modern Farmer’, which aired from October to December 2014, Kwon played her first leading role.
Kwon made an appearance in the music video for Shade’s single ‘Bad’ on February 26, 2015. She made her MC debut with Y-variety Star’s show Gourmet Road. She was chosen to co-host Weekly Idol with Apink’s Hayoung and VIXX’s N. Kwon and Nam Joo-hyuk made an appearance in the ‘Chocolate’ music video by Kangnam, a solo artist.
She began appearing in episode 33 of the KBS weekend drama ‘All About My Mom’. She portrayed Go Aeng-doo, a lovely and innocent but enigmatic young woman. Kwon played an upbeat but clumsy 18-year-old high school student who forms friendships and love triangles with four boys in the seven-part web drama ‘Click Your Heart’, which was produced by her agency FNC Entertainment, in March 2016.
She has also appeared as a nurse in the hospital drama ‘Hospital Ship’ and the remake of the horror film ‘Woman’s Wail’ from 1986. ‘Stars Don’t Lose Their Way at Night’, an essay collection of sayings and advice that are particularly meaningful to her, was released on November 1, 2017. At the 10th Korea Drama Awards, Kwon received the Hallyu Star Award for her performance in Hospital Ship.
Continued Success, Departure from AOA and New Agencies
It was announced in February 2018 that Kwon would play police officer Shin Na-ra in the KBS weekday drama ‘Queen of Mystery 2’. She was hired for the web drama ‘Wind-Bell’ and the ‘Loss Time Life’ remake of a Japanese drama of the same name.
Kwon left AOA after choosing not to have her contract with FNC Entertainment renewed. It was revealed on July 1st, 2019, that Kwon had joined O& Entertainment. She parted ways with O& Entertainment in 2020 and joined Woori Actors. She left the organisation on September 26, 2020.

Controversy
Kwon claimed in an Instagram post on July 3, 2020, that AOA member Shin Ji-min had bullied her for a decade, which caused her to leave the group in 2019. She claimed that the bullying led to an attempt on her life and posted a picture of her scarred wrist.
According to reports, Shin responded to the allegations by writing the word ‘fiction’ on her Instagram Stories, which she then quickly deleted. She criticised the article and said, “Fiction? It’s too terrifying to dismiss as fiction”.
On July 4, Shin apologised on her Instagram page, and FNC Entertainment issued a statement stating that she had been removed from AOA and would no longer be engaging in any entertainment-related endeavours.

Regarding her health, it was assumed that Kwon was referring to Sulli (Choi Jin-ri), who committed suicide in 2019, when she posted a picture on Instagram on August 6, 2020, with the caption “Jinri-ya, I miss you.”
Following a KakaoTalk conversation she had with an FNC Entertainment representative who thought Shin’s apology was sincere, Kwon disclosed that she had recently been hospitalised after relapsing in her self-harm in a separate post.
She requested the company to be more considerate of their artists as she concluded the post, expressing her rage at the prospect of Shin starting up again. Two days later, she shared a graphic image of her slit wrist along with what appeared to be a suicide note in a since-deleted Instagram post.
Upon seeing the post, the representatives of her agency immediately notified the authorities, and she was taken to the hospital in a non-life-threatening condition. She left the company and took a break from her career to concentrate on her recovery.
