Biography of Jinjin

Park Jin-woo popularly known as Jinjin is a celebrated South Korean dancer, singer-rapper and composer. He is the main rapper and leader of the K-Pop boy band ASTRO, which debuted on 23 February 2016 under the label Fantagio. He was also a former member of the duo Jinjin & Rocky until its dispersion. The boy band initially consisted of six members: MJ, Jinjin, Cha Eun-woo, Yoon San-ha, Rocky and Moonbin. Presently, the band has four members, as Rocky departed from the band and Moonbin passed away on 19 April 2023.

Early Life and Education

Jinjin is born on 15 March 1996 in Seoul, South Korea. He completed his education at Hanlim Multi Art School with a primary focus on Practical Dance. He also attended NY Dance Academy in Ilsan and has actively participated in various dance competitions.

Career

Before debuting with ASTRO, Park Jin-woo was a trainee for two years in Fantagio. He was officially introduced as the 5th trainee to the Fantiagio iTeen Photo Test Cut. Jinjin, along with the other members of ASTRO, starred in the fantasy romance web-drama “To Be Continued” which narrates the story of the male idol group released in 2015.

On 23 February 2016, he debuted in the boy group ASTRO. The Bands debut extended play ‘Spring Up’ contains five songs with the lead single ‘Hide & Seek’ and the second single ‘Cat’s Eyes’ was released on 23 February 2016. He performed in Eric Nam’s song “Can’t Help Myself” in July 2016 at KCON 2016 LA. In 2018, he was featured on tvN Asia’s “Wok the World”.

He composed and performed ‘Mad Max’ during ASTRO’s “2nd ASTROAD To Seoul “Starlight”” concert on 23 December 2018. The same was included in the DVD of the concert which was released in 2019.

On 16 January 2019, Jinjin along with fellow ASTRO member MJ composed one of the side tracks titled ‘Bloom’ from their first full album ‘All Light’. For Celuv TV, Jinjin and MJ took part in the travel variety show Go Together, Travel Alone. The show was filmed in Saipan with other prominent artists like Tony Ahn, Han Seung-yeon and Kim So-hye.

For OGN’s Game Dolympics Jinjin and MJ competed in 2019. He composed one of the tracks titled ‘Lights On’ from their seventh EP ‘Gateway’ in 2020. Park Jin-woo and Pentagon’s Kino hosted the DIVE Studios podcast Unboxing in 2021.

In 2021, he was credited as the composer, lyricist and arranger of “Villian”, the mini album for the South Korean boy group Trendz. Park Jin-woo and bandmate Rocky formed ASTRO’s second sub-unit called Jinjin & Rocky and debuted the EP Restore on 17 January 2022. The same year, Fantagio officially announced the renewal of Jinjin’s contract with the agency.

His filmography debuted with the web series ‘To Be Continued’ in 2015. Over the course of years apart from his music artistry he has also starred and featured in other web series like ‘My Romantic Some Recipe (2016), Sweet Revenge (2017) and Soul Plate (2019).

With the growing popularity of ASTRO Band, they have received a total of 14 awards and 21 nominations including the Golden Disc Award Best Performance Award (2020), Dahsyatnya Awards for Outstanding Guest Star (2017), Seoul Music Awards K-Wave Popular Award (2017). The members are engaged and dedicated to the band and they won multiple awards as a band.

Military Life

Fantagio officially announced Jinjin’s enlistment to the military service on 26 April 2023. He enrolled on 9 May 2023 and is appointed as a musician. He is expected to complete his enlistment tenure on 8 May 2025.

Personal Life

ASTRO members never get swept up in dating rumours and mostly keeps their personal life private. Much about his personal life is not known to the public. There were rumours regarding him dating a non-celebrity in the past.

On 14 June 2019, one of the Korean fan site of ASTRO JinJin revealed on Twitter accusing the male idol of having a girlfriend. The rumours were never confirmed by Jinjin, ASTRO or the Fantagio Entertainment label. As of now, he is believed to be single and keeps a high level of privacy regarding his personal life.
