Biography of Hoony
Lee Seung-hoon famously known by his stage name Hoony is a South Korean rapper, dancer and choreographer. He is a member of the admired and celebrated South Korean boy band Winner, which consists of members Jinu, Hoony, Mino and Seungyoon.
He embarked on his professional music career in 2011 as a contestant in the first installation of K-pop Star (2011–2012). During the time of the contest, he was scouted by the YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk who brought him under his agency. He debuted with Winner on 17 August 2014 with WIN: Who is Next (2013).
Early Life and Education
Lee Seung-hoon born on 11 January 1992 in Dongnae District, Busan, South Korea. He has two sisters and he was the youngest among them. His father was a businessman and was absent during his childhood days. His elder sister relocated to Seoul when he was a child.
At a young age, he pursued dance and was steadfast to join YG Entertainment. His dedicated passion gave him severe back pains and limited Hoony to choreographing. He opted for acupuncture treatment for his nerves, spine as he suffered from irritation.
Career
His zealous passion to enter the music industry made Hoony relocate to Seoul after his secondary education. After witnessing the success of his fellow peer in dance from his hometown, Hoya of Infinite, he was propelled to chase his dreams. With his friends from Busan, he created the dance team “Honest Boys” and performed on the streets of Seoul. The trio auditioned for the first season of Korea’s Got Talent in 2011. Even though they passed the preliminaries later they were eliminated from the show.
After auditioning for various entertainment companies Hoony was unsuccessful. Later, he joined a choreography team and became the team leader. Hoony created a dance routine for G-Dragon of Big Bang, a flash mob for Bean Pole and a campaign in 2011.
Lee Seung-hoon successfully auditioned for the first season of K-pop Star (2011–2012). The hip-hop duo credited and acknowledged Hoony’s role in bringing forth the spotlight to their songs than its initial success and profit.
Various artists have applauded Hoony’s artistic abilities like G-Dragon, Psy, BoA, and K.Will. Hoony was ranked fourth behind Park Jimin, Lee Hi and Baek A-yeon. In relation to his rising prominence, he appeared in Strong Heart, a performance at Youth Festival in Seoul. He was featured alongside Jae Park for the magazine spread “Boys Like Girls” in Vogue Girl Korea for the month of June.
Hoony was placed in “Team A” with other members: Kim Jin-woo, Song Min-ho, Kang Seung-yoon and Nam Tae-hyun. In the finale Team A won and the formed band was named Winner. The official debut was on 17 August 2014 with the studio album 2014 S/S. The band’s debut was a grand success and were dubbed as “monster rookies”.
Apart from his engagements with the band, his entertainment credits include: Eat, Sleep, Eat: Krabi (2016), Mimi Shop (2018), Awesome Feed (2018), Door-to-Door Salesmen (2020) on YouTube and I Want to Be a Celebrity (2022) and Law of the Jungle in Mexico (2018). He was the youngest dance mentor in Dancing High (2018).
On 17 October 2022, he launched his Youtube channel This Seunghoon, That Seunghoon”. For the 2023, stage musical Dream High, Lee Seung-hoon was one of the cast members amidst other lead character roles like Song Sam-Dong, Eum Moon-suk and SF9 member Yoo Taeyang. The musical is the adaptation of the KBS2 drama (2011) of the same name.
Achievements
As the youthful celebrated band, Winner gains increasing popularity. Its members find themselves basking in the glow of their artistic success. While individually they may not have received any awards and honours, their collective efforts within the band have propelled them to domestic and international success.
- Hoony and his bandmate Mino were selected as the influencers of the ambassadors of the luxury brand Burberry in 2017.

Military Life
Lee Seung-hoon was enlisted for his mandatory military service on 16 April 2020. He was trained at Nonsan Army Training Center for four weeks. After the completion of his training, he served as a public service worker. After one year and seven months of his enlistment, he was discharged on 14 January 2022.
Personal Life
There were rumours regarding Hoony dating a famous and popular person whose identity is not revealed to the public. He mentioned in one of the episodes of MBC’S Radio Star that the person is an “all-time top star”. These claims were never confirmed by his agency and is currently single.
